Time Trials explained

In Mario Kart World, Time Trials let players race solo to achieve their best lap times on any unlocked track.

You’re given three mushrooms per run to optimize shortcuts and line-taking. Players can download ghost data from friends, top players, or developers, allowing them to race against recorded runs and study faster routes.

While no other racers appear on the track, shaving off milliseconds is key — making this mode ideal for learning layouts and perfecting control.

Time Trial tips

Prioritize Coin Collection

Aim to grab as many coins as possible early in the run — ideally hitting the cap of 10 coins, which is confirmed to increase your top speed incrementally in Mario Kart World. Even a small speed boost can make the difference in shaving seconds off your lap time.

Practice Consistently

Time Trials are all about repetition and refinement. Stick to one track at a time and focus on improving small sections before attempting to perfect an entire run. Learning the feel of each corner and obstacle will build consistency.

Useful mechanics for Time Trials

  • Mini-Turbo Boosts:
    • Perfect your drift timing to release blue or orange mini-turbos — chaining them together is key to maintaining speed without items.
  • Glider Extensions:
    • In glider sections, tilting your kart (or using motion controls) can help you gain extra distance or align with tighter landings.
  • Hop Sliding:
    • Just after a boost pad or mini-turbo, short hops can maintain speed and reduce slowdown in off-road sections.
  • Clean Line Driving:
    • Unlike in races, there’s no need to block or defend — take the inside lines and apex every corner for max efficiency.
