Twitch has responded to a “terrifying” IRL incident where popular streamers Valkyrae, Cinna and Emiru were attacked by an angry fan, and is promising to investigate.
On March 2, popular Twitch stars Valkyrae, Cinna and Emiru were approached by a man during a broadcast at Southern California’s Santa Monica Pier.
The man demanded the trio give him their phone numbers and proceeded to follow them around, even going as far as getting down on one knee to ‘propose’ to the content creators.
Later on, he ended up lunging at the girls and demanded to fight them, even threatening to “kill” them, resulting in the group running away and getting help from security.
Days after the incident, Valkyrae vowed to catch her alleged attacker and even said she would “never” go out unarmed again following the viral ordeal.
Although police are investigating the perpetrator, Twitch says it’s also looking into the situation and was “horrified” by what transpired.
Twitch issues statement after IRL streaming incidents
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Twitch addressed the situation involving Valkyrae, Cinna and Emiru.
According to a Twitch representative, the Amazon-owned platform is “horrified by any kind of harassment or abuse, even if it took place outside of Twitch, and our safety teams continue to investigate.”
“We care deeply about our creators and their wellbeing and are working to ensure that they’re being supported,” they added.
Those three are hardly the only streamers to deal with obsessed fans in March, as several other scary situations have happened to creators on other platforms, as well.

The same night Valkyrae and her friends were threatened, Twitch and Kick star Amouranth’s home was invaded by masked attackers who demanded her money and crypto wallet.
After being pistol-whipped by the robbers, the model tricked them into following her to another part of her house where her husband was waiting, armed with a gun of his own. He fired two shots at the intruders, hitting one of them, and prompting all three to flee.
Exclusive footage obtained by Dexerto even shows the moment the thieves burst into her bedroom and the streamer being escorted off the property with police.
That’s not all; on March 11, Japanese streamer Airi Sato was stabbed to death during a live broadcast. The suspect had allegedly sent her around $13,500 and wanted the money back.
These encounters have left many female streamers afraid to take their broadcasts IRL.
“Seeing this [stabbing] news after the Valkyrae and her friends’ incident really makes me want to reconsider doing IRL streams. You can be in one of the safest countries and still have this happen to you,” streamer celina_0801 said.
Meanwhile, prominent figures in streaming have been advocating for increased safety measures and urging creators to hire their own security.
