Episodes 10 and 11 of When Calls the Heart Season 12 took a dark turn for Little Jack. But even if things get worse after his insulin treatment, there’s one way we know it won’t end up with him dying.
Season 12 is finally coming to an end this week, with the binge-worthy TV show airing its finale on Sunday (March 23). While things are usually kept light, Jack’s sudden health condition meant things in Hope Valley took a turn for the worse.
While the storyline might not be historically accurate, Little Jack was suddenly diagnosed with diabetes, a condition that could have killed him in the early 1920s. Thanks to some ingenious thinking from Elizabeth, Faith, and Mei, Jack was able to receive remote insulin treatment, managing his condition.
With one episode left to go, When Calls the Heart still has to have some drama left in the tank. However, we know one reason why that definitely won’t be Jack’s death.
Hallmark would never let a child die in When Calls the Heart
Use your head, people. Little Jack will never die in When Calls the Heart because it’s a storyline Hallmark would never let happen.

Hallmark TV shows and movies are known for keeping things light. They rarely ever stray into dark territory, and when they do, it’s “palatable” to say the least. Think of it this way: there are certain unwritten rules that go along with watching anything on The Hallmark Channel.
For instance, The Way Home would never mix its timelines enough to mean a romantic relationship would be inappropriate or incestuous. When Calls the Heart would never kill off a child – it hardly managed to kill off adult Jack properly in Season 5.
For a brief moment in time, we thought Jack was coming back from the dead. Annoyingly, his secret ended up being the discovery of his commissioning medal in the rubble where he died. You might have noticed that as a touching Easter egg in Episode 11, but this tells us something else too.
Hallmark doesn’t really commit to death unless it absolutely has to. Jack died off-screen in a landslide accident, and we just had to take everybody’s word for it. The likelihood of his son also dying is slim to none, not to mention the fact he’s only six years old. Nobody wants to see that, especially not if we want a Season 13.
Details are few and far between, but here’s what we do know about Episode 12 so far. The official synopsis reads, “As graduation approaches, Elizabeth and Nathan plan for a happy summer together; Lucas and Edie race Rosemary and Bill to find the gold; the town plans a sweet surprise for Minnie.”
When Calls the Heart Season 12 is airing weekly on the Hallmark channel. Catch up with its episode release schedule and how to watch outside of the US.
