Virgin River creator’s ‘sister show’ is coming to Netflix in April 2025

Mel, Brie, and Joey in Virgin River Season 6

Filming for Virgin River Season 7 is now underway, but another surprise is afoot. Fans of Robyn Carr’s book series will need to check out the ‘sister show’ on Netflix this month.

Crestfallen woman leaves her big-city life behind to start afresh in a small town nobody has ever heard of, meeting a dashing suitor within minutes of arriving. It’s a formula author Robyn Carr has got down pat, becoming Netflix’s longest-running original show in the form of Virgin River.

We’ve got a bunch of burning questions that need answering in Season 7, and we likely won’t get an answer to any of them until the end of the year. However, there’s an antidote to the long wait time.

Virgin River wasn’t the only original book series by Carr that was turned into a binge-worthy TV show. While Thunder Point is in the early stages of being adapted, another has only been available on Canadian TV… until now.

Virgin River ‘sister’ Sullivan’s Crossing lands on Netflix this month

That’s right – Sullivan’s Crossing is coming to Netflix on April 24, 2025. The new TV show has had two seasons so far, with Season 3 set to drop on its native CTV in May this year.

Maggie and Cal in Sullivans Crossing

As we’ve already discussed, the plot points here are going to be ones any Virgin River fan is familiar with. This time we’re in the crossroads of Timberlake, Nova Scotia, where “campers and hikers, bikers, rock climbers, fishermen and nature lovers refuel, refresh and recharge,” according to Carr herself.

Neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan’s perfectly planned life is turned upside down after finding herself in unexpected legal troubles. Needing time to reflect, she temporarily leaves her life in Boston and takes refuge in her childhood home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a campground run by her estranged father, Sully.

While there, she meets Chad Michael Murray (aka new to town Cal), and like any millennial woman would want, a love drama begins. Morgan Kohan, who you might recognize from When Hope Calls, plays Maggie, with Gilmore Girls’ own Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) as Sully.

Sully and Maggie in Sullivan's Crossing

Sullivan’s Crossing on screen is basically a smorgasbord of cozy drama, and it’s guaranteed to hit the spot. Even the showrunner from Virgin River’s early seasons is involved, with nods to the Netflix show everywhere you look.

As one fan points out, “I know by the title you’re thinking… what does this have to do with Virgin River?! But as a fan of small town shows and eps Gilmore Girls I started Sullivan’s Crossing and in Ep 1 Charmaine is in it… NOT PREGNANT! Haha, seems like a good watch to keep us busy until the new eps.”

“Loving this show. Great mash-up of VR and GG cast members. The book series by Robyn Carr is as good as the TV series. Highly recommend,” another agreed.

Sullivan’s Crossing Seasons 1-2 will be on Netflix from April 24, with Season 3 airing on CTV in May. For more small-town drama, explore The Way Home, Virgin River Season 7, and Ginny and Georgia Season 3. We’ve also recommended shows like Virgin River and When Calls the Heart.
