The Way Home Season 4: Everything we know so far

Kat, Alice, and Del look at each other in The Way Home

Unsurprisingly, that Season 3 ending has got our heads spinning about The Way Home Season 4. It’s definitely happening (thank God) and we already know a fair bit about what to expect.

I might not have landed all my Season 3 predictions (but three out of five isn’t too bad), but The Way Home Season 3 wrapped up in the most satisfying way. Sure, we still have some burning questions, but that wasn’t before getting some answers we sorely needed.

Elliot was revealed as the mystery baby, Colton knew everything about his family before he died, and Sam isn’t really Sam at all. Who saw that coming?

Now, there’s a whole bunch of new mysteries to solve, which may or may not come in the form of another historical timeline. But before we get too carried away with what-ifs, here’s what we definitely know about The Way Home Season 4 so far.

Does The Way Home Season 4 have a release date?

Hallmark confirmed The Way Home Season 4 on March 6, 2025. Following release patterns for Season 1-3, we can guess Season 4 will return to screens in January 2026.

Jacob and Alice in The Way Home Season 3

In a video posted to Hallmark Channel’s socials, star Andie MacDowell confirmed: “We could not be more excited to bring you more romance, family drama, mystery… and of course, time travel. See you all in 2026.”

“We’re so thrilled. It’s such a lovely thing to be able to do this again. It really is a family, this cast and crew and the team at Hallmark, and it’s such a rare gift to be able to do this for a fourth time and we’re so, so grateful that we do get that,” executive producer Alexandra Clarke told TV Insider.

“We’re very, very lucky,” added executive producer Heather Conkie.

“Our talented writing staff led by the mother-daughter showrunning team of Heather Conkie and Alexandra Clarke continues to amaze us as they raise the bar each season,” said Samantha DiPippo, Senior Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media, in a statement.

“Their carefully crafted storytelling filled with family drama, romance and an absorbing mystery has enthralled the show’s passionate fanbase and has made The Way Home appointment television. We can’t wait for them to see where the pond takes our time travelers as their journey continues.”

Seasons 1-3 of The Way Home have all been released between January and March. While Season 1 debuted on January 14, Season 2 was the latest release on January 21. Season 3 came incredibly early compared to these, dropping on January 3.

At this stage, there’s no reason to think Season 4 won’t follow the same pattern. The Way Home is a core pillar of Hallmark’s winter release schedule, alongside rival comfort show When Calls the Heart. As the saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Key cast members will return to The Way Home

Stars Chyler Leigh and Andie MacDowell will definitely both be returning thanks to the Instagram video, with other regulars such as Sadie Laflamme-Snow and Evan Williams expected to come back too (though this is currently unconfirmed).

Kat, Alice, and Del in The Way Home Season 3

Here’s the full list of who we’ll expect to see in future episodes:

  • Sadie Laflamme-Snow as Alice
  • Chyler Leigh as Kat
  • Evan Williams as Elliot
  • Andie Mac Dowell as Del
  • Spencer Macpherson as Jacob
  • Vaughan Murrae as KC Goodwin
  • Rob Stewart as Samuel
  • James Gallanders as Vic

Now, you’ll know there are many more cast members, but we can’t guarantee who’ll be back. This is because it entirely depends on which timelines Season 4 chooses to visit. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion we’ll be introducing the 1965 timeline, which means a whole host of new faces.

But here are the cast timelines we could see dependent on storylines:

1999 cast

  • Alex Hook as teenage Kat
  • David Webster as teenage Elliot
  • Remy Smith as child Jacob
  • Jefferson Brown as mature Colton
  • Siddharth Sharma as teenage Brayden
  • Baeyen Hoffman as child Daniel

1816 cast

  • Kris Holden-Ried as Thomas Coyle
  • Stuart Hughes as Elijah Landry
  • Watson Rose as Susanna Augustine
  • Tim Post as Cyrus Goodwin

1974 cast

  • Jordan Doww as teenage Colton
  • Julia Tomasone as teenage Del
  • Devin Cecchett as teenage Evelyn
  • Jill Frappier as Fern Landry

Doww has previously stated he would return on social media, explaining: “We are all dying to know as well. But if we do get the green light… I’ll be back.” This suggests the 1974 timeline will definitely be in play, which makes sense given Season 3’s ending.

Grandma Fern is also a solid guess, linked to both 1975 and 1965.

What we can expect in Season 4

Five big questions need to be answered as soon as possible in The Way Home Season 4 – Sam’s real identity, who Casey really is, who Elliot’s mom time traveled with, where Jacob has gone, and what will happen to Lingermore.

Elliot and Jacob in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 8

Let’s go through some possible answers. All we know is that Jacob’s vanished, but of course that’s unlikely to be confined to the present-day timeline. As he was brought up there, it’s most likely he’s headed straight back to Elijah in 1816. Why? His ultimate threat of Cyrus has now gone.

We also saw Elliot’s mom leave a letter for him in a baby basket, jumping into the pond with an unknown man. Where did she travel to? Who did she become? Have we already met her at another point in time and just never noticed? Season 4 will definitely need to revisit 1974 to get some answers… although that’s assuming Elliot’s mom was from that timeline to begin with.

Sam’s final scene echoed something we saw Elliot do in Season 1, staring out to the pond while ominously telling someone else everything will be fine. The most popular guess is that Sam is really Jacob from a future timeline. As we know, pond rules stipulate you can only travel back in time rather than forward, meaning if Sam really can time travel, he’s from the future.

Sam and Del talk in The Way Home Season 3

Susanna’s will helping Jacob out in his hour of need wasn’t the only thing to come out of Casey finding it. As Casey leaves, Jacob finds out Lingermore – that’s the estate Susanna and Cyrus live in in 1816 – was left to the Landry family.

Jacob told everything he learned to Kat, Del, and Alice, but does this mean that anything will change in the future? After Jacob tried to set fire to Goodwin Vinyard, the two families aren’t exactly on the best of terms. Sure, they’ve got legality on their side, but that doesn’t mean the Goodwins will go down without a fight.

Showrunner Alexandra Clarke told TV Insider: “I don’t want to be beholden to anything. I think we can safely say that the Casey of it all – their identity, their story – the curtain will be pulled back on that in a bigger way next season for sure. I think the other lingering questions about Sam or the letters or all the things we let hang at the end of this year, they will be addressed, no question about it.

“We are very aware of the questions we left unanswered at the end of Season 3 going into Season 4, and I hope that our viewers trust us enough to know that we will 100 percent address ’em all.”

But what about Casey?

Casey in The Way Home

All we know for sure at the moment is that Casey isn’t Alice’s kid. They confirm they’re a Landry and Goodwin, but say they “don’t want to break anymore rules” by sharing more.

But why didn’t we get the reveal in Season 3? Showrunner Alexandra Clarke told TV Insider, “I think we realized early on that there was a way we could of reveal all about Casey in our Episode 10, but we held back because it is such a lovely reveal and we didn’t want it to just be yet another reveal in this episode of reveals. There’s so much more story to tell with Casey. Casey is the most mercurial, incredible character.

“I love the Casey character and Vaughan Murrae plays them so perfectly, and they really could be anyone is the best part. They’ve got a little bit of Goodwin, they’ve got a little bit of Augustine, they’ve got a little bit of Landry. And I think it’s lovely to see the viewers continue to guess at who they actually are.

“The answer will be shared, of course it will. But I think there’s more story to tell and there’s more story to earn us that reveal rather than just kind of throw it away. It’s too big and important a reveal to just throw away in a quick scene in a finale episode. So I will say that they are telling the truth about not being Alice’s kid.”

How to watch The Way Home Season 4

As of writing, we’ve got no reason to believe Season 4 won’t follow the same format as Season 3. This means episodes will premiere on the Hallmark Channel before streaming on Hallmark+ the next day.

Thomas and Kat dance in The Way Home Season 3

Remember how there was a big to-do when Season 3 first started airing because its weekly premiere on The Hallmark Channel was being axed? While original plans of making The Way Home Season 3 exclusive to streaming were nixed, it could happen with Season 4.

At this stage nothing has been ruled out, suggesting business will carry on as usual. Seasons 1-3 are currently available to stream on Hallmark+ already, meaning you can binge until your heart is content. Fans outside will need a VPN in order to see Season 3.

Currently, plans start from $7.99 per month, with Hallmark+ having access to the channel’s entire back catalog. Where this differs slightly is for fans outside the US. The monthly price is about the same (it’s £4.99 for UK viewers), but the access to content differs.

The Way Home Season 4 comes to Hallmark in 2026. Catch up with what theories have already been ruled out, why Colton couldn’t be brought back to life, as well as the best Hallmark movies and best Hallmark TV shows of all time.
