The Way Home Season 3’s “massive twist” means one unhinged fan theory is right

Adult Colton in The Way Home Season 3

If you hadn’t already worked it out, The Way Home Season 3 finale is officially set for a “massive twist.” But what that twist might be proves one ridiculous fan theory could have legs.

We’ve already laid out our predictions for the Season 3 finale, but the questions that get answered in The Way Home are anybody’s guess. The binge-worthy TV show has taken us for an absolute ride this year, dropping some plot points while picking up ones we didn’t even see coming.

One thing is for certain: getting any kind of answer isn’t going to come easily. Ten episodes have lasted a small lifetime, and we probably know less about what’s going on in Port Haven than we did at the start of January.

While we scramble for answers, some fan theories have had good guesses. But what if the most unhinged of all actually comes true in the Season 3 finale?

Collision theory could come true with The Way Home Season 3 twist

Fans have pitched the Collision theory as a popular way to end The Way Home Season 3’s finale – and after a magazine synopsis confirmed a “massive twist” is on the horizon, this could well be the case.

Kat, Alice, and Del in The Way Home Season 3

The synopsis reads: “As Season 3 winds down, the past, present, and future are set to collide and trigger a massive twist in the time-travel adventures of Kat and the Landry women.”

Essentially, what they’ve done here is confirm the obvious. Collision theory is the idea that all timelines (and we’ve got four that have been explored since Season 1) will quite literally ‘collide’ to directly inform each other, or even merge into one.

“So I’m thinking my Collision Theory theory is correct – at least in part,” one fan responded to the synopsis. “I think there’s a good chance that Colton figuratively walks in the door. Window guy to me is either Teen Nick or Teen Colton (even though WG looks much more like TN, plus the Hooked on a Feeling thing).”

Obviously, we’ve already seen adult Colton in recent episodes, and while he’s only made a ghost-like appearance, it’s not beyond possibility that he somehow comes back to life. Episode 10 brings the 1999 timeline back into play, with Colton’s death being the most defining moment of that point in Landry history.

Colton and Del embrace in The Way Home Season 3

“They literally say ‘collide’ after bringing up collision theory in-show, so maybe at this point they’re hitting us over the head,” a second fan weighed in, with a third pointing out: “Maybe instead of one timeline, there will be multiple ones at once, lol.”

Thanks to the above image, we know adult Del and Colton are going to be reunited in some way. Between his adult and teenage self, so much has hinged on Colton in The Way Home Season 3 that it makes sense for him to be the final piece of the puzzle.

“I think it would be crazy if they ended the last episode with Colton walking through the front door to see del and Sam together. We know how they like to leave the last episode on a huge cliffhanger,” another fan mused.
