Which details are worth remembering and which are total red herrings? It’s a question for life and The Way Home Season 3 – and we might be overlooking something huge before the finale.
Let’s go over what we know so far. Colton had indeed met Jacob in the 1800s, pulling him out of a fire in 1816. Things between Kat and Thomas seem to be back on again after Elliot kissed Emma, and Noah and Alice’s breakup push her and Max together. Somewhere in the middle is Casey, now a confirmed time traveler from the future.
Del still has her own reasons for going nowhere near the pond, angry at the thought of Colton potentially keeping Jacob’s real whereabouts a secret his entire life. As we approach the finale of The Way Home, it seems nothing can be trusted.
But how do we know which are genuine clues trying to steer us toward answers? Truth is, we don’t… but there’s something we’re routinely looking over.
We can’t forget about the clock before The Way Home Season 3 finale
Let’s be honest with ourselves – we might not know exactly why yet, but the old clock surely holds some of the answers we need in The Way Home Season 3 finale.

Fans might remember Elliot finding an old clock in the wall during Season 3 Episode 1, coming across it while remodeling the house. He wonders what this means in the moment, but it’s quickly dropped. The season has continued without coming back to it, leaving fans sure there’s something more to it than meets the eye.
While an obvious link is to the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland – something the original two seasons took a great deal of inspiration from – it could also link back to the story The House with a Clock in Its Walls. In John Bellairs’ tale, a young boy sets out on an adventurous journey with his uncle to try and find a clock that has the power to wreak havoc in the world.
Of course, this is The Way Home, so the answer could be completely different. As one fan posted on Facebook, “The wrapped clock in Elliott’s wall is a pivotal plot point in The Way Home. According to the show’s storyline, Alice Briggs (the family matriarch) hid the clock there decades ago.
“Alice wrapped and hid the clock to prevent her family from being pulled back into the past through the magical pond, allowing them to move forward in time.”

Another weighed in, “The clock that Colton and Jacob were fixing at the beginning of Season 1 (a memory of Kat’s) is the same clock Elliot found – the cloth wrapped around the clock is the same cloth that Alice (or whomever it was) put it in her jacket when she and the guy jumped into the pond…
“In Alice Through the Looking Glass there is a clock that is hidden in the walls – it is the key to saving the family and to fixing the upside-down world.”
We’ve got two episodes left to try and get some answers – and if they’re needed before the season finale, chances are The Way Home Season 3 Episode 9 will show why time is ticking.
