The one member of the Landry family who has never tried time traveling is matriarch Del, but a clue for The Way Home Season Episode 9 hints that might be about to change.
Del is a woman who’s led a complicated life, and it’s even more complicated than she realizes. The Way Home Season 3 shows her introduction to Port Haven in 1974, where she instantly meets and falls in love with future husband Colton.
Many years later, she grapples with the disappearance of her son Jacob, only for Colton to die in a car crash less than a year later. So imagine her surprise when Jacob returns home in Season 3 Episode 1, having accidentally grown up in the 1800s after falling in the pond.
Ever since the pilot, Del has been borderline nasty about use of the pond, but could this be about to change in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 9?
The Way Home Season 3 Episode 9’s synopsis proves Del might use the pond
The synopsis for The Way Home Season 3 Episode 9, titled ‘Too Late To Turn Back Now,’ reads “The Landry women pick up the pieces of their past, each wishing they could read Colton’s mind; Jacob may have a secret he’s keeping from them too.” If we’re to take this literally, this could be Del’s change of heart towards the pond.

We still don’t properly know why Del has such an aversion to time travel, other than the fact her past feels too painful to revisit. It’s understandable given how much trauma she’s been through, but as any fans know, there’s a lot left to be answered.
Logically, the easiest way to get those answers is to jump into the pond, but Del has been vocal about her hatred for it for years. In fact, she’s often argued with Kat and Alice about their use of it, begging them to leave the past in the past.
Episode 8 began to see a change of heart. She’s still got a lot of her resentment, but she’s also realizing she needs answers she doesn’t have. Del is spending more time by the pond than ever, even imagining adult Colton in the final scene to ask one key question – did he know Jacob was actually alive the entire time?

There’s good reason to think this. Episode 7 revealed teen Colton had been to 1814 to visit Jacob, initially revealed in one of Susanna’s sketches. We got more background on this in Episode 8, which also revealed Colton saved Jacob from a fire in 1816.
Obviously, we’ve got no concrete answers to this yet, but if teen Colton isn’t from the future (this is a separate theory, hang onto your hats), he would have known Jacob was alive for his entire adult life and marriage to Del. His death and grief still doesn’t make sense, suggesting something might be up.
It’s either the biggest betrayal in a fictional marriage or the biggest futuristic twist still to come. Either way, Del might be heading to the root of the problem in The Way Home Season 3 Episode 9.
