Robyn Carr has done it again. After her smash-hit book series Virgin River was adapted by Netflix, CTV has taken up the gauntlet for her second series of novels, Sullivan’s Crossing.
After three seasons, it’s safe to say the drama levels of the new TV show are sky-high. In the Sullivan’s Crossing Season 2 finale, a major fire broke out at the town’s diner, with Sully left for dead. As for Maggie, her entire personal life was turned upside down.
Following the release of Season 3, there’s a question that still gets asked: who was the father of Maggie’s baby? Warning: some may find this content distressing and Season 3 spoilers ahead.
Who is the father of Maggie’s baby?
In the Sullivan’s Crossing TV show, we find out that Andrew is the father. Sadly, Season 3 reveals that Maggie had a miscarriage after the events of the fire.
CTVAs Maggie spends more time in Sullivan’s Crossing, she grows closer to Cal, a guy who moved to town to get over his late wife. Building a life for himself while Maggie settles in, the pair finally decide to make a go of their relationship in the Season 3 finale.
Prior to this, there’s a lot of flirting and definite rolls in the hay, accounting for how Cal could easily be the father of Maggie’s baby.
However, there’s another man in this binge-worthy TV show, as Maggie and Andrew officially become a couple in Season 2. He’s a big city guy reminding Maggie of the life she left behind and is a world away from the rugged and carefree Cal viewers have come to know and love.
The third chapter reveals that Maggie loses the baby due to the stressful events of the Season 2 finale. Speaking on this topic to Good Housekeeping, Maggie star Morgan Kohan said, “I think it was a really important storyline to bring up this season, as this topic is not talked about as much as it should be.
“It affects so many different people in many capacities – whether it’s happened to you or someone you love. I was definitely nervous to portray it respectfully and in the right capacity to be honest and help people feel seen.”
Do the books say who the father is?
According to Robyn Carr’s original book series, Maggie and Cal have a baby. Not only this, but we know who – a daughter, called Elizabeth. However, the novels also reveal that Maggie was pregnant with Andrew’s baby before the events of Season 1, and she had a miscarriage.
CTVFor the most part, the TV show actually differs from what happens in the book. Instead of following her on a journey of singledom and independence, Maggie and Cal get together almost immediately, marrying by the end of the first book.
Though the book series is only five novels long – compared to Virgin River’s 22 and counting – Cal and Maggie stay together for the duration, going on to have Elizabeth over time.
Given this does happen in the books, there’s every reason to suspect Sullivan’s Crossing will eventually follow suit and see Maggie and Cal having a baby together.
Is Maggie dating anyone?
Yes, Maggie and Cal finally decide to make a go of it in the Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 finale after she breaks up with Andrew. However, another spanner is thrown in the works when we find out Maggie is already married to a man named Liam, who shows up right at the end of the third chapter.
CTVThe final episodes of Season 2 saw Maggie officially breaking up with Andrew as her heart told her she needed to stay in Sullivan’s Crossing. Unwilling to compromise, Andrew parts ways with her, staying in the big city.
Maggie and Cal were still on tetchy ground after more about Cal’s background was revealed, leading to a misunderstanding about his wife.
Once Cal had the opportunity to properly explain to Maggie, they were back on track.
Will Maggie stay in Sullivan’s Crossing?
As of the Sullivan’s Crossing Season 3 finale, Maggie has made up her mind: she’s staying in Timberlake.
The CWMaggie was undecided about what to do due to the lack of job opportunities in town. However, she comes to a realization: her heart wants to be with Cal.
Instead of moving away, she tells Cal she’ll stay and open up her own general practice, meaning she can pursue her career while continuing their relationship.
But right at the end, a huge curveball is thrown when a mystery man named Liam shows up and reveals he’s Maggie’s husband. No answers are revealed, meaning we’ll have to wait for Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4 to see how this pans out.
