One of the breakout stars from Stranger Things has revealed that he hoped his character would commit suicide at the end of the first season.
Stranger Things has been a bona fide phenomenon since it debuted on Netflix in 2016, with the tale of teens battling monsters from another dimension capturing the imagination of critics and audiences alike.
The show delivers action, sci-fi, horror, and comedy, but it also features its fair share of tragedy, thanks to the death of popular characters like Barb Holland, Bob Newby, and of course, Eddie Munson.
But one beloved figure has made it to the final season, in spite of the fact that the actor who plays him hoped he would die at the end of the first.
David Harbour thinks Hopper should have died

Actor David Harbour says that when he thought that Stranger Things would run for just one season, he also believed that his character Hopper should kill himself at the end of that run.
The claim appears in a wide-ranging interview with GQ, where the outlet says: “Harbour read the scripts and was convinced the first season should have ended with Hopper dying by suicide. To him, it was the only way Hopper could apologise to his daughter.”
Harbour also says that it felt like fans wanted him dead when it looked like Hopper had sacrificed himself at the end of Season 3. “I think they were just committed to the beauty of that moment of his death,” says Harbour. “It was so moving that I think they almost didn’t want him to be alive.”
As for what’s ahead for Hopper in the final batch of Stranger Things episodes, Harbour says: “We shot a lot of nights, and there is a lot of action, and we’re fighting evil in a very direct way. Hopper is a man of action – there’s a lot of running around.”
