The most shocking scene in the Severance Season 2 finale is also the funniest

The final episode of Severance Season 2 is full of surprises, but one scene in particular stands out, both for its shock value, and blackly comic violence.

Season 2 of Severance has been “generational tv,” delving ever deeper into the evil machinations at Lumon Industries.

Mr. Milchick’s plan to divide and conquer the MDR workers has pretty much worked, but at the same time, Mark has edged closer to the truth about his wife Gemma, while on that journey he’s found an unlikely ally in Ms. Cobel.

That storyline builds to an emotionally charged climax in the Episode 10 finale of Season 2, while it also features a memorable moment that’s both upsetting and hilarious. So as we dig into that scene, be warned, there are SPOILERS ahead…

How Drummond gets a fitting death in Severance S2 finale

Mark holds a gun to Drummond's neck in Severance.

The sequence happens midway through proceedings, when Innie Mark and Outie Mark are working together to rescue Gemma. Innie Mark heads to the Export Hall, and while searching for Gemma, runs into intimidating Lumon enforcer Mr. Drummond.

What follows is a brutal brawl between the pair, which isn’t a fair fight as Drummond is much larger than Mark, and effortlessly slams him into the walls of the corridor. Mark fights back by biting Drummond, but he’s quickly overpowered again, and slowly has the life choked out of him.

Just when it looks like Mark will die, Lorne from Mammalians Nurturable steps in and holds a bolt gun to Drummond’s head. A fight between them then ensues, before Mark gets hold of the gun, and takes Drummond hostage.

The pair then ride in an elevator down to the Testing Floor, with Mark ordering Drummond to take him to Gemma. But on the way down, Mark switches from Innie to Outie, and during the shaky crossover, accidentally pulls the trigger.

The bolt fires into the enforcer’s throat, and blood pours over the pair of them until Drummond collapses and bleeds out on the floor.

The moment comes out of nowhere, and is blackly comic, the shock on Mark’s face matching what the audience is feeling. But it’s also uniquely fitting, as the monster who was about to put a bolt in the head of a lamb called Emile, gets that same bolt fired into his own jugular. Indeed, you could even call it a twisted form of karma.
