As Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey continues to form, more details about the cast and their characters are being revealed, including Robert Pattinson’s.
Based on Homer’s Odyssey, the Nolan flick is fast becoming one of the most exciting movies in production right now. (An epic Greek adventure isn’t something anyone ever predicted for the Oppenheimer filmmaker, but here we are.)
The cast is even more reason to be excited, with names like Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson all set to star in the new movie.
A new “reveal” surrounding Pattinson’s character might have let slip who he’s playing, and needless to say, it sounds perfect for the Batman star.
Robert Pattinson rumored to be playing Hermes
According to Italian magazine Chi, Pattinson will be playing Hermes in The Odyssey. Of course, this may be speculation for now, but if it’s true, then it might just be one of the most unusual roles of his career to date.
Greek mythology portrays Hermes as a herald and messenger of the Olympian gods. He able to move between the mortal and divine worlds, and is often depicted as a smaller being with winged sandals.

As well as being a messenger of the gods, he’s also been portrayed as a “soul guide,” one who guides souls into the afterlife.
Naturally, he turns up in Odyssey (potential spoilers incoming), ordering Calypso to free Odysseus after she’s held him captive for years in an attempt to make him her husband. He also gives Odysseus a warning about Circe, another goddess he will encounter on his travels.
This all sounds very exciting, and confirms the theory that the majority of the star-studded cast will be playing well-known gods in Greek mythology.
The Odyssey will be released in theaters on 17 July, 2026.
