The Predator franchise is making a huge comeback. After struggling to reclaim the success and praise of the original movies, the most recent entry, Prey, was met with both critical and commercial success.
Following the 2022 film, the franchise is looking to expand once again, with Predator: Badlands serving as the next installment.
With a release date set and the first trailer upon us, here is everything you need to know about Predator: Badlands ahead of its arrival.
Release Date: When is the movie coming out?
Predator: Badlands will be released in theatres on November 7, 2025.
Previously, the MCU Blade movie was slated for release on this date; however, Badlands has now taken its place.
What’s more, this marks the first theatrical release from the franchise since 2018’s The Predator, as Prey skipped theatres and was released straight on Hulu where it broke records for the platform.
Cast: Who is set to star?
Elle Fanning is set to star as Thia, the lead character in the new Predator: Badlands film. Thia is a Weyland Corp android, though details surrounding her arrival on the mysterious, Predator-ridden planet, remain a mystery for now.
Fanning has been acting since she was a child and has continued to grow as a star into adulthood. She has made a name for herself by starring in Maleficent and The Beguiled, and most recently found major success in her role as Catherine in The Great. She’s also set to appear in Death Stranding 2.
20th Century StudiosAlongside Fanning is up-and-coming New Zealand actor Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who is taking his first lead role in a film. Playing the main Predator we track throughout the film, Dek, the role is mostly physical, covering his face and naturally avoiding any English dialogue.
What’s more, director Dan Trachtenberg will be back to helm Badlands, something that should not come as a surprise given the breakout success of Prey.
Plot: What will the movie be about?
Predator: Badlands will follow suit from Prey in that it will be a standalone endeavor. Much to the disappointment of Prey fans, however, this means it will not be connected to the 2022 film in any capacity. At least, that’s what we’ve been told.
Set in the future on a remote planet, the story follows Dek, a young Predator who has been banished from his clan. Eventually, he stumbled into Thia, an android, and the two hunt for “the ultimate adversary,” as an early plot description outlined.

The first trailer for Predator: Badlands arrived on April 23, 2025. This brief teaser gave fans their first look at the film in motion, revealing the two protagonists as well as the danger they face on their journey together.
