James Gunn has revealed the release date for Season 2 of Peacemaker, and it’s hitting small screens just after his Superman movie flies into cinemas.
It’s been more than three years since Season 1 of Peacemaker became one of the most acclaimed superhero TV shows ever, with the series managing a 93% score amongst critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Suicide Squad spinoff combined hardcore violence with a sick sense of humor, while John Cena delivered a memorably deranged performance as the title character, a vigilante anti-hero with some pretty twisted priorities.
Now the long wait for Peacemaker Season 2 is over, with showrunner James Gunn announcing the character’s return.
When is Peacemaker Season 2 out?
Season 2 of Peacemaker will start streaming on Max on August 21, 2025. That’s less than a month after Jame’s Gunn’s Superman hits cinema screens.
Gunn made the announcement on his Instagram account, accompanied by a very brief teaser trailer (footage from which can also be seen in the above Max trailer).
Here’s what he wrote: “Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @streamonmax August 21.”
The series once again stars Cena as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, while support comes from Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee, while Tim Meadows and Sol Rodriguez join the cast.
There will also be a new opening credits sequence to replace the one Season 1 start that featured some killer dance moves to rocking Wig Wam tune ‘Do Ya Wanna Taste It.’
“When it became such a part of the show, I think everybody this time was just so excited, and I really think that’s going to show,” Cena told Collider of the new credits.
“I’m very happy with it. I want to say so much more, but I’ll just say I’m very happy with it. Everyone was super enthused and also understood how important it is this time around, and I really hope that shows. I know the show is great. In my mind, the opening number is great. I hope the world agrees.”
We’ll find out what the new opening sequence looks like on August 21, 2025. Until then, here’s what we know about Jame’s Gunn’s Superman, plus early word on leaked test footage from the film.
