Nobody 2 release date, trailer & everything we know

Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2

Bob Odenkirk is returning for another mission in Nobody 2, so with its release date and trailer finally revealed, here’s what we know about the sequel so far.

Odenkirk garnered a ton of attention as the slick-mouthed lawyer Saul Goodman on one of the best TV shows of all time, Breaking Bad, but it was 2021’s Nobody that cemented him as an action movie star.

The film followed Hutch, a seemingly normal every day guy with a boring job and family who is revealed to be a deadly assassin after he becomes the target of a ruthless crime lord.

Fans were itching to be dropped back into the world of assassination once more, so they were thrilled when Nobody 2 was announced to be in development. But, has there been any updates about the new movie? Here’s everything we know.

Nobody 2 release date

Nobody 2 will be released on August 15, 2025, over four years after the first film’s release.

Speaking to Collider, producer Kelly McCormick initially revealed plans for Nobody 2 to enter production in 2023. “We hope to make it next year, so fingers crossed,” she said.

“So our theory is you don’t need to make a good sequel just to make a sequel. We need to make a great sequel. And so it’s about making sure that we get it right. And if we do, I think there’s a lot of hope that we can go next year.”

The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes will have impeded any further development last year, but Connie Nielsen assured it was definitely in the works.

It was later announced by Collider that the movie started production in August 2024, putting it on track for a late summer 2025 release.

Nobody 2 has since wrapped production, as confirmed by director Timo Tjahjanto. Empire Magazine revealed the first look at the film, with Odenkirk’s Hutch looking exactly as you’d expect: holding a gun and covered in blood.

Nobody 2 story details

Hutch and his family in Nobody 2

Nobody 2 takes place four years after Hutch “inadvertently took on the Russian mob, [but he] remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs.”

“Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his ‘job,; Hutch and his wife Becca find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and only place where Hutch and his brother Harry went on a vacation as kids,” the synopsis continues.

“With Hutch’s dad in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville, eager for some fun in the sun.

“But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator and his shady sheriff, Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered.”

Odenkirk explained that “Universal has been very upbeat and welcoming. Derek [Kolstad] and I have talked story. It’s not a sure thing yet, but we’re working on it. I think the signs point to yes.”

John Wick fans will recognize the name Derek Kolstad, as the screenwriter wrote the first three chapters of the Keanu Reeves-led franchise.

Connie Nielsen also teased what to expect, hinting that “tensions” have grown in the family after the first film.

“On top of that, you have this family again. I’m a family person and I love depicting the tensions inside of a family; the natural tensions, but also the sweetness that underlies the love that connects all of these people together. This is a great family. It’s a great story that I look forward to returning to, definitely,” she said.

Will Nobody 2 crossover with John Wick?

Both Nobody and the John Wick franchise are produced by David Leitch, utilizing his expert stunt team, 87/Eleven. The similarities between the two franchises are noticeable, as Hutch and Wick operate in shady worlds of assassination fuelled by mysterious currency, ethics and leadership.

Though Hutch’s world is a tad more grounded than the gloriously chaotic heights of Wick, it hasn’t stopped the filmmakers and fans pondering whether a crossover could happen.

Nobody director Ilya Naishuller told IndieWire in March 2021: “I love when the people ask, ‘Is it the same universe?”

“I’m like, ‘Alright, I can’t say anything. But what you could do is look at which studio made which movie and then think about the reality of doing a crossover,” continued Naishuller.

The director added that “everything’s possible. Stranger things have definitely happened.”
