Editor Picks – New Netflix shows we recommend
Given there are so many shows coming to Netflix in August, we’ve picked out some of the best the platform has to offer from its new releases.
Wednesday, Season 2 Part 1

- Genre: Horror comedy
- Release date: Part 1 on August 6, 2025
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 4 episodes
After what’s felt like an eternity of suffering, Wednesday Season 2 is finally set to debut this month. Jenna Ortega is reprising her role as the pig-tailed princess of the macabre, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez Addams.
As she heads back to Nevermore for more spooky adventures, she’ll be joined by some fresh faces, including none other than Lady Gaga for more ‘Goo Goo Muck’ mayhem. Season 2 has been split into two parts, with the first landing this month, followed by the final four episodes on September 3.
Love is Blind: UK, Season 2

- Genre: Reality
- Release date: August 13, 20 & 27
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 10 episodes
If reality TV is more your vibe, Netflix has you covered with the second season of the UK’s Love is Blind. The first chapter proved a hit with fans of the dating show – some even said it felt more authentic than the US version, but whether you agree with this or not, it’s bound to be an entertaining ride.
The premise of the show is simple: singletons date each other in the hopes of finding the one. The big difference is they don’t get to see each other in person until they’re engaged. Bring on the drama, tears, and romantic connections.
Hostage

- Genre: Political thriller
- Release date: August 21, 2025
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 5 episodes
Netflix has been expanding its political thriller subcategory of late following the success of The Night Agent and The Diplomat. If you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll be pleased to know that the streaming service is set to drop a new entry from across the pond: Hostage.
The mini-series stars Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones as the UK Prime Minister, who is forced into a rivalry with France’s first female President (Julie Delpy). Expect plenty of twists and turns, including a healthcare crisis, fierce campaigning, and a kidnapping that changes everything.
My Life With the Walter Boys, Season 2

- Genre: Romance drama
- Release date: August 28, 2025
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 10 episodes
Last but definitely not least, the hit teen romance drama My Life With the Walter Boys is finally set to make its return. Based on Ali Novak’s 2014 novel of the same name, the TV show sees the main character Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) caught up in a love triangle with two brothers.
After leaving to spend time with her uncle in New York, Jackie returns to Silver Falls in the second chapter, where she’s determined to rebuild her life with the Walter family. But with unresolved feelings, things soon grow complicated. If you’re a fan of The Summer I Turned Pretty and Sullivan’s Crossing, this one’s perfect binge-watch.
