From Vanessa Kirby’s latest outing after The Fantastic Four to an anticipated anime sequel, Netflix has plenty of great new movies to watch in August 2025.
Trying to find something to watch on Netflix can be exhausting. Not because there’s nothing there, but the complete opposite: there’s too much choice.
For every new movie added to the streaming service, at least five old flicks are being brought onto streaming for the first time or returning from the depths. We’ve all been there: staring blankly at your screen, looking at the endless list of options.
Luckily, we’ve made a nifty list of every single movie being added to Netflix across August, including brand-new releases. And once you’ve taken a look here, why not head over to our list of new TV shows to see what’s coming to the small screen?
Editor Picks – New Netflix movies we recommend
Since there are so many movies coming to Netflix in August, we’ve picked out some of the best the platform has to offer out of all the new releases and older additions.
My Oxford Year

- Genre: Romantic comedy
- Release date: August 1, 2025
- Cast: Sofia Carson, Corey Mylchreest, Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack
- Director: Iain Morris
- How long is it? 1 hour 51 minutes
Inspired by Julia Whelan’s novel of the same name, My Oxford Year centers on an American student who travels to the UK’s Oxford to follow her dreams. As you may tell from the genre, she soon gets caught up in a romance with a charming local (those Brits, hey?). It’s cosy and cute – the perfect popcorn movie for a chill night in.
Fixed

- Genre: Animated comedy
- Release date: August 13, 2025
- Voice cast: Adam DeVine, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen
- Director: Genndy Tartakovsky
- How long is it? 1 hour 26 minutes
From Genndy Tartakovsky – the mind behind Hotel Transylvania, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Samurai Jack – comes what’s bound to be the most unhinged animated comedy of the year (in the best way). Fixed follows a dog named Bull who discovers he’s getting neutered in the morning… so he decides to make his last night of freedom count. Expect adult humor, wild animation, and enough chaos to make Sausage Party look tame.
Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage

- Genre: Supernatural anime
- Release date: August 14, 2025
- Voice cast: Hiroshi Kamiya, Haruka Tomatsu, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Yoko Hikasa
- Director: Kiyotaka Suzuki
- How long is it? 1 hour 15 minutes
If you were one of many anime fans who couldn’t wait for Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage to land in the US, you’ll be pleased to know the film is making its debut on Netflix this month. Directed by Kiyotaka Suzuki and based on Toei Animation’s Mononoke anime series, this Phantom in the Rain sequel sees the Medicine Seller returning to Ōoku in his pursuit to defeat the mononoke, only for events to soon spiral out of control.
Night Always Comes

- Genre: Crime thriller
- Release date: August 15, 2025
- Cast: Vanessa Kirby, Randall Park, Julia Fox, Eli Roth
- Director: Benjamin Caron
- How long is it? 1 hour 48 minutes
Adapted from Willy Vlautin’s 2021 novel The Night Always Comes, this gritty new thriller follows a woman who risks everything to secure a house and a future for her family. It’s a white-knuckle descent into desperation and survival, and if that weren’t enough of a draw, the cast is headed by Vanessa Kirby just after her debut as Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The Thursday Murder Club

- Genre: Mystery comedy
- Release date: August 28, 2025
- Cast: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie
- Director: Chris Columbus
- How long is it? 1 hour 58 minutes
We’ve got another book adaptation for you, this time based on Richard Osman’s bestselling debut novel of the same name. The story follows a delightfully unconventional group of retirees who meet every week to solve old murder cases, only for a real whodunit to land in their laps. With an all-star cast, Harry Potter’s Chris Columbus at the helm, and a plot that sounds like Knives Out meets Miss Marple, The Thursday Murder Club is bound to be a club you’ll want to join.
