New Big Bang Theory spinoff has already messed up one ridiculous detail

Sheldon, Howard, and Stuart play the bells in The Big Bang Theory

Another spinoff for The Big Bang Theory is in the works, and details have been slim. Now we have a lead character and a name, it already feels like the new TV show has messed something up.

Since April 2023, rumblings of a new Big Bang Theory have come and gone, with the original writers room for the main show reuniting for a new idea. Obviously we’ve had Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy both hit screens, but the rest of our nerdy cast has been left in the lurch.

That is, until now. We now know the new spinoff will focus on Stuart, the quiet but kind comic book store owner to came into his own as the seasons went on. When we last saw him, he’d finally moved in with love of his life Denise, who he’d originally hired to help in the store after it became popular.

It’s important to note the spinoff hasn’t actually been greenlit yet, so we’re talking in hypotheticals here. But Stuart’s foray into the limelight comes at a price, and it’s a ridiculous one.

Why is the Big Bang Theory spinoff called Stuart Fails to Save the Universe?

Okay, let’s address the elephant in the room. Our proposed spinoff is titled Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and that’s hardly a catchy phrase that trips off the tongue.

Stuart in The Big Bang Theory

For some reason, Chuck Lorre and the gang are starting to name their shows like they were on the Disney Channel in the 2000s. The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon? Catchy, direct, and make total sense.

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage? Wordy and forgettable, but there’s a level of intrigue that could be argued as a good thing (come on, we’ve all spent hours wondering why this is the “first” marriage). But Stuart Fails to Save the Universe? This feels like it’s taking a joke too far.

In fact, fans don’t seem to be taking to the idea either. One commented on X/Twitter, “Not the title I was expecting,” with a second agreeing, “Who came up with this awful idea?”

“Bro couldn’t even save his own store, and now it’s the universe?” a third added.

In its defense, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is likely a playful way of linking back to his comic book store, alongside the fact his moral compass for life has been built on the success of superheroes like X-Men and the Marvel universe.

All we know so far is that Kevin Sussman would return, with Stuart’s girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), Brian Posehn (Bert Kibbler), and John Ross Bowie (Barry Kripke) also tentatively being cast. Like we’ve said, nothing has been given the green light yet, so there are no formal plans.
