There’ll be a Stranger Things documentary coming out before the long-awaited Season 5, but the new Netflix drop won’t actually be about the show itself.
Fans are still waiting on news for the upcoming fifth and final season of Netflix’s sci-fi megahit. Everything’s on the line, and it’ll mark just under ten years since the original series first arrived on the streaming service back in 2016.
The new season doesn’t even have a release date yet, but we can be certain the last episodes will involve some major deaths and some heartbreaking moments to boot.
Since then, we’ve had four seasons and a hit stage play, with the latter soon to get its own documentary on Netflix.
Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow drops in April
For those non-diehard Stranger Things fans, the West End play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, first arrived in 2023. The play is a prequel, taking place in 1959 when the Creel family first moves to Hawkins. It also includes younger versions of the characters we know and love, including Hopper and Joyce.
First Shadow ended up being a critical success, with a Broadway version set to debut on April 22. But before that, Netflix is dropping a new documentary all about the production on April 15.
“The first time we saw the play, we were blown away,” Ross Duffer told Netflix. Matt Duffer also added, “They pulled everything off and then some. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of our lives.”
The documentary will follow the production of the show and the build-up to opening night, which took place on December 14, 2023.
With a full set and intense special effects, the doc will give an inside look into how the team brought Stranger Things from the screen to the stage.
Stephen Daldry, the show’s director, explained, “The challenge is to create a visceral experience for the audience, where they feel shock and awe, surprise and delight. You have to deliver that.
“The fusion of television and theater is about the speed of [the] narrative and how you create it… There are moments in the show where you will think, ‘I don’t understand how they did that.'”
