Looking for your next K-drama obsession? Well, Netflix has your back, with Weak Hero Class 1 dropping on the streaming service ahead of the anticipated Season 2.

It’s never been a better time to be a K-drama fan. The genre continues to expand with releases for all tastes, whether that be dystopian thrillers like Squid Game or romantic dramas such as Crash Landing on You.

Netflix has been delivering the goods for some time, with its 2025 schedule already seeing the debut of The Potato Lab, When Life Gives You Tangerines, and When the Stars Gossip.

But the streaming giant has also bagged the license for one of the best K-dramas of the past few years: Weak Hero Class 1. The first season dropped on Netflix on March 25, 2025, and it’s definitely a TV show you don’t want to miss.

Weak Hero Class 1 already has the seal of approval

With a 96% audience rating, Weak Hero Class 1 earned favorable reviews, as well as strong viewership figures. The TV show first aired on the South Korean streaming platform Wavve back in 2022.

Lee Tae-hyun, CEO of Wavve, said at the time, “Our recently released Wavve Original, Weak Hero Class 1, was ranked the first place in paid subscriber contribution and topicality for four weeks consecutively in Korea.”

The day prior to its recent Netflix release, lead star Park Ji-hoon commented, “Weak Hero Class 1 recorded an impressive 45.5% OTT platform market share and a 9.9 rating at the time of its release in 2022, proving both its quality and popularity.”

As for viewers at home, every aspect of the show received praise, from the acting and the action to the plot and script. “The plot, the script, the character, the cast – all in all, I feel overwhelmed in every episode. Definitely will recommend and will rewatch it again,” wrote one.

Another said, “It’s difficult to put into words just how incredible this drama is. It was my first time seeing Park Ji-hoon in an acting role and he totally blew me away. The show is perfectly written. A must watch for anyone that doesn’t mind violence in a drama.”

What’s it about?

Park Ji-hoon takes on the lead role of Yeon Si-eun in Weak Hero Class 1

The K-drama is based on the 2018 Naver webtoon Weak Hero, authored by Seopass and illustrated by Razen. The story centers around Yeon Si-eun, a smart student who refuses to back down from the bullies in his class.

Though he doesn’t appear physically strong, Si-eun’s quick wit and scientific thinking make him a formidable force against those who try to push him around. As the bullying intensifies, he finds himself in an escalating world of violence.

As Si-eun forms unlikely alliances with other students, he becomes embroiled in a world of power struggles, moral dilemmas, and complex relationships.

Each episode delves deeper into the psychological and physical toll of high school bullying, while showcasing Si-eun’s transformation from a quiet, academic student to someone who will stop at nothing to protect himself and those he cares about.

It’s a great show for fans of character-driven underdog stories. Just be warned: things get very dark and very violent.

As said, singer and actor Park Ji-hoon takes on the lead role of Yeon Si-eun in the cast. Ji-hoon first gained widespread fame as a member of the K-pop group Wanna One, but he’s also carved a name for himself in the acting world.

A number of his other credits include TV shows such as Love song for Illusion, At a Distance Spring is Green, and Love Revolution. His performance as the dynamic Si-eun has resonated with viewers, making him one of the standout stars of the series.

Choi Hyun-wook brings his talent to the role of Ahn Su-ho, another key figure in Weak Hero Class 1. Choi’s fame has been rising steadily, with notable performances in My Dearest Nemesis, Hi Cookie, and Twinkling Watermelon.

Su-ho is the loyal and troubled friend who stands by Si-eun despite the challenges they face together. Joining their trio is Oh Beom-seok, who’s portrayed by Hong Kyung, an actor with credits such as Innocence, Revenant (the TV show, not the movie), and A Distant Place.

His Weak Hero Class 1 character Beom-seok is initially perceived as tough and unapproachable. However, as the series progresses, Hong Kyung’s nuanced performance unveils another side to him.

Other supporting cast members and characters include:

  • Lee Yeon as Yeong-i

Season 2 of the hit TV show has been given the greenlight, so it’s a question of when rather than if. Although it was supposed to drop on Netflix in January, this was pushed back to Q2, meaning we can expect it anytime between April and June 2025.

A synopsis has been revealed for Weak Hero Class 2, which reads, “Once the bullies target you, it’s game over. The school is run by tyrants whose favorite hobby is tormenting the weakest kids in class. But then Shi Eun arrived.

“This mysterious new student threatens to dismantle the established order. He may be small in stature, but his calculative and brutal fighting leaves unsuspecting opponents lying on the floor begging for mercy.

“Now the school’s toughest bullies have to scramble to take down this new and unusual hero.”
