5 massive predictions for the Invincible Season 3 finale

Conquest and Atom Eve in Invincible Season 3

Conquest has arrived, worms, and the Invincible Season 3 finale drops this week. Before Episode 8 drops, I’m betting on five big predictions – be warned, there are possible spoilers ahead.

Episode 7 ended with the moment I (and every other Invincible fan) had been waiting for ever since I finished the comics: in the catastrophic fallout of the Invincible War, Mark met Conquest for the first time.

Just like Anissa, he’s a Viltrumite soldier sent by the empire to check Mark’s progress; remember, General Kregg ordered him to prepare Earth for their rule. Unlike Anissa, however, Conquest doesn’t have much patience for chit-chat or second chances.

The closing seconds promised the show’s biggest fight to date in Season 3 Episode 8. So, looking ahead in the comics and taking into account the fact it may not completely follow Robert Kirkman’s source material, here’s what I think will happen (again, if you don’t want any spoilers, stop reading).

Atom Eve will play a bigger role in the Conquest fight

Atom Eve in Invincible Season 3 Episode 8

I don’t want to get into too many details about the Conquest fight for non-comics readers (if you want to spoil it for yourself, read Issues #61-64). However, I predict we’ll get another showcase of Atom Eve’s extraordinary powers as she rushes to assist Mark.

Let’s just say, Eve’s role in the Conquest fight is pivotal – but also brief. Going by the images released from Episode 8, it looks like Eve will don her power armor again, last seen when she teamed up with Mark against Mr Liu earlier in the season.

If there’s been one consistent complaint about the Invincible TV show, fans often say it’s failed to live up to Atom Eve’s solo special, which showed how creative she can be with her powers. She often fires pink blasts and creates protective shields and bubbles, but she can do much more, and Conquest is the perfect opportunity for her to use and flex her powers like never before.

Rex Splode’s funeral

It seems unlikely that the Conquest fight will take up the entire Season 3 finale, and after his heartbreaking death in the Invincible War, Episode 8 should show Rex’s funeral.

It’s a poignant moment in the comics, gathering all of Earth’s mightiest heroes to pay tribute to Rex. It’s especially sad when Eve tries to speak, talking about how he was her “first… everything.”

This will probably be a short scene, but it seems likely in the cooldown from the chaos of the Conquest fight.

Don’t forget Rus Livingston and the Sequids

Rus Livingston and a sequid in Invincible Season 2

Near the end of Season 2, it appeared Rus Livingston was finally freed from the slimy grip of the Sequids. Alas, one hid inside his body, and it took control of him after he puked it up in Episode 6.

Season 3 hasn’t made any mention of the Sequids, but I can say this: it is a major plot later in the comic, so the finale could include some sort of tease about Rus and the state of the Sequid threat.

Specifically, Issue #65 shows four people in the sewers surrounded by Sequids. “Not long now,” one of them says. The show could lift these panels straight from the comics, or it may do something slightly different.

Don’t expect to see Thragg

Thragg and Mark in the Invincible comics

I’m sorry, but I think it’s extremely unlikely we’ll see Thragg in the Invincible Season 3 finale.

Again, for non-comics readers, I won’t spoil the specifics of who he is. There are two big reasons why he won’t turn up. Firstly, if he does appear, it means Episode 8 will squeeze in a lot into its normal runtime; Thragg doesn’t show up until Issue #70.5 (also known as Invincible Returns), and the context for his first appearance is really important.

Secondly, Season 3 managed to hide Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s casting as Conquest until Episode 7 aired. Considering most fans (myself included) predicted he’d be the voice of Thragg, it also seems unlikely that the series is hiding another A-list addition to the cast.

Thragg will almost definitely show up in Season 4, though, so get your thinking caps on for who could play him now that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is off the table.

A Dinosaurus appearance (or tease)

Invincible fighting Dinosaurus in the comics

Invincible Season 3 Episode 8 is titled, ‘I Thought You’d Never Shut Up.’ Weirdly, that isn’t a line from the Conquest fight in the comics: it comes from Issue #68 when Mark meets Dinosaurus for the first time.

In short, Dinosaurus is the monstrous (and yes, dinosaur) alter-ego of David Anders. He’s a major adversary for Invincible in the comics, and the title seems too specific (especially given his proximity to this part of the story) for it to mean nothing at all.

Speaking to Robert Kirkman, he teased: “Don’t think you’ve got it figured out. You may get something unexpected at the end. There’s probably going to be some surprises along the way for comic book fans and definitely some tweaks here and there.”

Simon Racioppa, the series’ co-showrunner, also told us that while they’re “staying very closely to the books, we always try to put in little tweaks and surprises and try to expand moments… whatever those episodes are, we always try to surprise our viewers a little bit.”

Until Episode 8, keep tabs on the show’s soundtrack. Until then, find out why Mark’s blue suit is so importantwhat happens to Powerplex, and if you want to look further ahead, you can find out how the Invincible vs Conquest fight ends and read the Invincible comics for free.

In our interview with Robert Kirkman, he also explained why Spawn couldn’t appear in the Invincible War and why there may not be a Rex Splode special anytime soon.
