Invincible Season 3 Episode 6 worries fans with ‘funeral’ but there’s a simple explanation

Last week’s Invincible has proven to be divisive. After Episode 4’s mic-drop reveal about the remaining Viltrumites, the show took a breather from the big events and focused on Mark’s efforts against Mr Liu, the head of the Order… who can also transform into a dragon.
While we haven’t arrived at the Invincible War or Conquest (yet), Episode 6 will introduce a major villain from the comics: Powerplex (voiced by Aaron Paul, no less), a man enraged by Invincible’s seemingly wanton destruction.
Somewhere along the way, Mark and Eve will be dressed like they’re going to a funeral – but they’re not.
Invincible Season 3 Episode 6 will include the Chicago memorial
While unconfirmed, it seems obvious that Invincible Season 3 Episode 6 will partly take place at the Chicago memorial, with a ceremony paying tribute to everyone who died as Invincible tried to stop Omni-Man from conquering Earth.
There are two simple reasons for this. Firstly, the show has been a faithful adaptation of the comics, and while it’s re-ordered a few things, there shouldn’t be a funeral at this point in the story.
Secondly, if you look in the background of the teaser trailer and another image of Atom Eve fighting someone (she’s fending off an electric blast, so it’s probably Powerplex), there are huge plaques in the background with thousands of names.
It seems likely that these are the names of the people lost in Invincible and Omni-Man’s brawl after they crashed through downtown Chicago.
Others have speculated that it could be the Immortal and Dupli-Kate’s wedding, or even a funeral for the Mauler Twins after Oliver killed them in Episode 3. I’m not saying this definitely isn’t the case, but Mark, Eve, Debbie, and Oliver attending a Chicago memorial service is the most sensible bet.
