Everyone is talking about Stephen Graham’s searing new Netflix drama Adolescence, and if you love the show, check out another series that’s also inspired by real events.

Adolescence is a remarkable piece of television, revolving around a 13-year-old boy being accused of murder, with his story told via four single uninterrupted takes, across four hours of television.

The shocking tale isn’t based on a specific true story, but is inspired by real-life events, while the series builds to a heartbreaking climax.

Why Adolescence fans should check out The Walk-In

The Walk-In is a 2022 drama about the infiltration of a neo-nazi group. The five-part series initially aired on ITV, and is now streaming on Netflix in the UK.

The show stars Stephen Graham as Matthew Collins, a member of the Hope Not Hate activist group, who helped foil a plot to kill Labour MP Rosie Cooper by neo-nazi terrorist organization National Action.

Like Adolescence, the series illustrates how the internet can have an insidious affect, leading the character of Robbie Mullen (Andrew Ellis) to far-right groups.

The Walk-In was met with near-universal acclaim when it first screened, with The Independent calling it “a disturbing, unflinching portrait of British neo-nazism,” and The Standard proclaiming it a “gripping, necessary show,”

The Guardian added: “Philomena writer Jeff Pope’s dramatisation of reformed neo-nazi Matthew Collins’ efforts to infiltrate and derail one of the UK’s most threatening far-right groups is one of the best investments you can make.”

But not everyone liked what they saw. Conservative MP Alicia Kearns asked for assurances in the House of Commons that “threats on the lives of our colleagues are not treated as entertainment.” While Rosie Cooper herself said: “I am appalled at ITV’s recent treatment of the threats to MPs,” and complained that “I have been used as a marketing tool by Hope Not Hate.”
