NeonAnora has taken the world by storm, winning critical plaudits and a bunch of Oscar nominations. With the Academy Awards just around the corner, here’s where you can stream the movie first.
It feels like writer-director Sean Baker has been building up to Anora throughout his career. Movies like Tangerine, The Florida Project, and Red Rocket revolved around sex workers, outcasts, and those that society is comfortable ignoring. Yet, Baker tells their tales with both humor and humanity.
Anora covers similar ground, but this story of a stripper falling in love with the son of a Russian oligarch also manages to straddle genres in thrilling fashion, being a love story, a screwball comedy, and a tense thriller, sometimes in the space of just a few minutes.
The film features star-making turns from Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, and Yura Borisov, won the Palme d’Or in Cannes, and received six Academy Award nominations, including Oscar nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
How to watch Anora
NeonAnora premiered in Cannes before doing the festival circuit throughout 2024, then releasing in US cinemas on October 18, 2024. But due to success at multiple award ceremonies in the run-up to the Oscars, Anora is still in some cinemas.
However, the film also hit digital platforms on December 17, 2024, meaning you can now rent or buy the movie at home. Anora is currently available to rent on Prime Video, Apple, Microsoft, Plex, and Fandango at Home for $5.99, while it can be purchased for £19.99 from Apple, Microsoft, and Fandango at Home.
If you prefer your media in physical form, Anora will be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray by The Criterion Collection on April 29, 2025.
Where to stream Anora
Doubtless hoping to ride the wave of Academy Award attention this Sunday (March 2), Anora will be available to stream on Hulu in the US from March 17, 2025.
With Disney+ carrying Hulu content in the UK and elsewhere around the world, expect the movie to drop on that streaming service around the same time.
What is the movie about?
Anora is the story of a stripper called Anora “Ani” Mikheeva, who agrees to spend the weekend with a wealthy customer, and he turns out to be the son of a Russian oligarch.
The pair hit it off, and fly to Las Vegas to get hitched. But that doesn’t go down well with his father, who embarks on a mission to get the marriage annulled.
