Unlike other MCU shows, Daredevil: Born Again has been a surprisingly grounded series yet that’s not stopped Marvel bosses hiding a rather cosmic easter egg in Episode 5.
Yes, in Daredevil: Born Again Episode 5, there’s a rather subtle reference to arguably the greatest supervillain in the MCU. I’m talking, of course, about Thanos (sorry Loki fans, but he’s more of an antihero).
But “where?” I hear you cry. It’s not like the big purple guy was wandering the streets of New York City now was it? Well no, the Mad Titan didn’t make a physical appearance but there was a nod to the Infinity Stones that I’m willing to bet you missed.
The Infinity thieves
You see during the fifth episode, five thieves break into a New York bank and take the staff (including Kamala Khan’s dad) hostage. Matt Murdock being the man without fear, bravely enters the building in the hopes of saving the day.
The thieves, however, are all dressed in unique disguises. Each of the would be robbers is wearing a differently colored mask: red, blue, green, purple, and yellow—the exact colors of five Infinity Stones.
Now I know what you’re thinking. We’ve made an embarrassing mistake because Thanos didn’t collect five stones did he? He collected six fragments of crystalized infinity, and one of them was orange. So how can this be a reference to the not so jolly purple giant if there’s no orange mask?
Well, what were the thieves in Daredevil Born Again trying to steal? An orange diamond to complete the set. Coincidence? I think not. What do you think am I crazier than the Mad Titan or have I spotted something that’s put a smile on your face?
