Fans of Monster on Netflix have got their first look at Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein in Season 3, through posters that lean into the serial killer’s influence on Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs.
The first season of Ryan Murphy’s True Crime anthology series Monster told the Jeffrey Dahmer story, while Season 2 focused on Lyle and Erik Menendez.
Now Murphy and co-collaborator Ian Brennan are heading to 1950s Wisconsin for Season 3, which will revolve around one of the most notorious killers in American history.
Ed Gein’s crimes shocked and stunned the country, while they also influenced some of the greatest horror movies of all time, something that the Netflix series is doubling down on.
Ed Gein is Leatherface, Norman Bates, and Hannibal Lecter in new posters

Netflix has released a series of first-look posters for Monster Season 3, and they picture Charlie Hunnam channelling the famous fictional characters who followed in Ed Gein’s footsteps.
The most startling sees Hunnam screaming while brandishing a chainsaw, like Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.
There’s also a Psycho homage, with Gein resting his head on an old lady’s lap, a reference to Norman Bates’ love for his mother.
While Silence of the Lambs gets a look in, via Gein removing a mask made of skin, very much like Hannibal ‘the Cannibal’ Lecter.
What is Monster: The Ed Gein Story about?

An official synopsis for Monster Season 3 was released at the same time, which also references those connections, and reads as follows:
“Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.

“Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.
“From Psycho to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre – he became the blueprint for modern horror.

Alongside Hunnam, the cast also features Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, and Lesley Manville.
