Brian Laundrie’s parents break silence as attorney slams Netflix’s “inaccurate” Gabby Petito doc

Brian Laundrie’s parents have spoken out via their lawyer following the release of Netflix’s American Murder: Gabby Petito, accusing the docu-series of being “inaccurate.”
The new true crime documentary follows the death of Petito, a 22-year-old aspiring vlogger murdered by Laundrie, her fiancé, in August 2021 as they traveled together across the US.
After her death, Laundrie returned to his parents’ home in Florida alone. Shortly after she was reported missing, they hired a lawyer and refused to comment on the case. A month later, as the investigation intensified, police found Laundrie’s remains. His death was ruled as a suicide.
At the end of American Murder, the Netflix documentary reveals that “the Laundrie family, through their lawyer, declined to provide a comment.” Now, they’ve broken their silence.
Attorney of Brian Laundrie’s parents wants them to “mourn in peace”

Speaking to the US Sun, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie’s lawyer Steven Bertolino addressed the Netflix docu-series.
“One perspective depicted as the ‘truth’ as seen through their lens. Similar to Republicans and Democrats fighting it out lately,” he said.
“Each side believes their perspective is correct. Hard to see through the lens of the other with all the noise and distrust. To be clear though, there were no contradictions by my clients Chris and Roberta Laundrie.”
“The documentary contained many inaccuracies, incorrect juxtapositions of timelines, and misstatements and omissions of fact – perhaps deliberate to capture their ‘truth’, perhaps due to simple error.
“We all know Brian took Gabby’s life and Brian then took his own as well. Let the parents of both Gabby and Brian mourn them in peace.”
The documentary chronicles the weeks leading to Laundrie taking his own life, including phone calls with his mom and dad on August 29 (Laundrie told his father, “Gabby’s gone”) and body cam footage of his parents declining to speak to a police officer about Petito’s disappearance.
Gabby Petito’s parents say they forgive Laundrie

While Petito’s parents, Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt, have sued Laundrie’s parents since their daughter’s death, they’ve also forgiven him.
“I have forgiven Brian, and I know that is what Gabby would have wanted, and I’m moving forward so I can move on,” Schmidt told Newsnation.
“That is my personal experience. I don’t think everyone has to forgive. They can when they are ready if they are ever ready. But for me personally, I needed to forgive to let that anchor go.”
Jim Schmidt, Petito’s stepfather, also said: “Forgiveness is for you. It is for your healing. For your grief. For you to be able to move on.”
The wrongful death lawsuit against Laundrie’s parents has since been settled, with Petito’s family awarded $3 million. Christopher and Roberta have continually denied any wrongdoing.
Speaking to Us Weekly, filmmaker Julia Willoughby Nason discussed their efforts to contact Laundrie’s parents. “We did reach out to his family. It’s hard to open up about this for that side of the family,” she said.
Co-director Michael Gasparro added: “We reached out to the family, to their lawyer and to Brian’s sister. But we respected the fact that they didn’t want to participate and that’s it.”
