Editor Picks – New Disney Plus movies & shows we recommend
Before we get into a full rundown of the platform’s offerings for August 2025, we’ve picked out a few TV shows and movies you should keep an eye out for.
Eyes of Wakanda

- Genre: Superhero
- Release date: August 1
- Cast: Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 4 episodes
What it’s about: This new animated MCU series follows the adventures of brave Wakandan War Dogs of the secret organization the Hatut Zeraze throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, they must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts lost to the world.
What we think about it: There’s cause for pause with Eyes of Wakanda. It was supposed to release later in August, but it was brought forward by three weeks, and all four episodes are dropping on the same day.
Limitless: Live Better Now
- Genre: Documentary/reality
- Release date: August 15
- Cast: Chris Hemsworth
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 3 episodes
What it’s about: Chris Hemsworth takes on three epic challenges to explore science-backed ways to improve our health. He learns to drum for a brain-boosting, surprise stadium gig, climbs a frozen 600-foot wall to explore the benefits of breaking out of our comfort zones, and embraces brutal Special Forces pain training in South Korea—all to discover how we can live longer, better lives.
What we think about it: How do you feel completely inadequate about your own achievements in life while also being entertained at the same time? You watch Limitless: Live Better Now and witness Chris Hemsworth partake in grueling, extraordinary challenges (plus, Darren Aronofsky is involved).
“Surreal, exciting… terrifying,” Hemsworth teased. “The weeks leading up to it, there was a lot of minimal sleep.”
Stand Up to Cancer 2025
- Genre: Live special
- Release date: August 15
- Regions: Everywhere
- How long is it? 1 hour
What it’s about: Country music stars, celebrities, athletes, cancer researchers, and survivors join together for a powerful evening of inspiration and celebration. Music icon Dolly Parton will appear in the special, with Grammy Award-winning artist Sheryl Crow serving as host.
What we think about it: Starting from 5pm PT, audiences will be treated to an incredible night of entertainment live from Nashville, all in aid of fundraising for cancer research.
Katie Couric, SU2C co-founder, said: “The goal of Stand Up To Cancer has always been about working collaboratively to push cancer research forward so we could help patients as quickly as possible. Nearly two decades later, it’s incredibly gratifying and inspiring to see the impact of this research.
“Bringing the show to Nashville will infuse new energy and excitement into our mission. There’s still so much work to do and every dollar makes a difference – especially to the families who are counting on novel approaches and therapies as they face the challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis.”
