Landman fans may have even more reason to celebrate the Landman Season 2 announcement, since one 1883 star is rumored to join the cast of Taylor Sheridan‘s oil drama.

Landman Season 2 was officially announced on March 12, which really wasn’t a surprise. The Paramount+ series became a hit for the streaming service when it was released back in 2024, even beating out Squid Game on the charts.

Season 1 ended with Monty’s death and the appearance of a new frenemy for Tommy Norris, meaning the second season is likely to bring more power plays and explosive drama. (Literally, expect explosions.)

Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore, Landman already boasts an impressive cast. But according to new rumors, one new star may be joining the drama, and you’ve already seen him in the Sheridanverse before.

Sam Elliott rumored to join Landman

According to a report by Puck News, Sam Elliott is in talks to join the cast of Landman Season 2. Sheridan fans will remember Elliott starred in the Yellowstone spinoff 1883, where he played Shea Brennan, the grouchy leader of the European wagon trail.

There are no further details surrounding Elliott’s potential role, only that he’s described as a “main role.” Paramount hasn’t confirmed the casting themselves.

1883 is widely considered as one of the best shows in the Yellowstone universe, with Elliott being at the center of many of the spinoffs best (and most emotional) scenes.

While there won’t be a 1883 Season 2, Elliott revealed at the time that he had been sad to let go of the series, which could be an indication that he’d be up for starring in another Sheridan project.

“I think everybody was sad to see it over; I know I was. I would have liked to have that wagon train go to Canada by then and just stay with it,” he told Variety in 2023.

“My thought was, ‘Let’s do a prequel of this. Where was LaMonica? Where were those two guys?’ Pick it up after the war, when they were Pinkertons. There’s plenty of stuff to do.”
