TikToker and podcast host Avery Woods explained why she made the controversial comment about religion and apologized on behalf of others’ beliefs.

Avery Woods’ ‘CHEERS! with Avery Woods’ podcast episode from February 10 went viral after listeners heard the TikToker’s joke about Jesus.

As she sat with Too Hot To Handle’s Harry Jowsey, Woods prompted a brief discussion about religion and how women often post a Bible verse in their biographies on social media.

Listeners were “disgusted” by Woods’ remarks, commenting on their outrage on Spotify, where the episode was released.

“Oh this is bad, very very bad,” one said. “I couldn’t even listen to this,” another added.

One woman with the same name as Woods even claimed to have lost about 30K followers on TikTok, as social media users thought she was the podcast host.

Following the backlash, Woods issued an apology via TikTok, saying she was “learning and will do better.”

“This is one of those things where I never ever want to offend people and their beliefs. First of all, I just want to say, my podcast is a comedy podcast and there are jokes that I should not make that cross lines, and I made a joke that crossed a line.

“I’m so sorry. I never ever want to bash religion, bash somebody’s beliefs. We have so many people in our lives that are religious people and faithful people. There are certain jokes that I should not make and I regret that wholeheartedly.”

Woods continued her statement, teetering on the line of accountability. “The episode that I did with Harry was scripted. These were questions that were written by producers. I probably should have spoken up a bit and maybe dimmed it down a bit.”

She noted that she added the joke about women who have Bible verses in their bios because those are the people who criticize her the most online. “They send me really nasty, hateful messages,” Woods said as she explained that her religious comments aren’t anything new.

“The comments after were completely unnecessary and I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything like that,” the TikToker said. “I need to remember that my sarcasm and my comedy is not going to be the same as other people’s…Please block me if you don’t like what you see,” she said.

Viewers still weren’t convinced, though, agreeing she had “unapologetic vibes” and was being “insincere.”

Woods isn’t the only influencer in hot water with social media users, either. After Twitch streamer Kai Cenat claimed Kendrick Lamar added cheering noises to his Super Bowl LIX performance to make it sound like they were engaged, some netizens questioned if he was telling the truth.

Lamar’s management at Top Dawg Entertainment even responded to Cenat, saying the streamer was “mad” because the rapper didn’t allow him into his suite during the game.
