A brand new Resident Evil game may have just been teased by Capcom after a key easter egg was spotted by eagle-eyed fans.
Resident Evil has easily cemented itself as one of the greatest franchises in gaming history, with millions diving into its new adventures as well as its remakes. In fact, Resident Evil 4 has just hit a major milestone with 10 million players freaking themselves out on their mission to rescue the US president’s daughter.
As a way to express their gratitude to fans, Capcom has shared a 2-minute video on X. Following the reveal of this “special video,” eagled-eyed fans are already convinced that this is something much more than just a ‘thank you,’ insisting it’s a teaser for Resident Evil 9.
Resident Evil 9 could be revealed soon according to fans
In the video in question, we see the protagonist Leon Kennedy avoiding the party hat-wearing zombies that plague the streets of Spain.
At the end of the video, the shot was focused on a rather confusingly complicated signpost, which read ‘Thank you for playing’ in various languages, appearing to thank the 10 million players for their support.
While on the surface it’s a sweet thank you for the impressive achievement, fans flooded to the comments to theorise that the signpost was actually a subtle reveal for Resident Evil 9.
If you turn the signpost 90 degrees, it’ll read IX, which is 9 in Roman Numerals, perhaps hinting at the upcoming reveal of a new Resident Evil adventure.
“Wait a minute. That’s Resident Evil 9, right?” commented one fan, editing the signpost to show the IX symbols. “I know what you did here. IX” echoed another.
Whether this is the first hint at Resident Evil 9 is yet to be confirmed, but given the last mainline Resident Evil game we had was Village, which released back in 2021, it’s about time we stepped into the terrifying adventure again.
