Everything we know about Rainbow Six Siege X

Rainbow Six Siege X teaser

Rainbow Six Siege X overhauls the game by introducing a new 6v6 game mode, a new multi-layered map, visual enhancements, improved audio, and more.

Almost a full decade from the release of Rainbow Six Siege (and even longer for the Beta players among us), Ubisoft’s tactical shooter is now in store for what’s being described as its “biggest transformation” thus far.

While dozens of major updates, seasonal content drops and the like have all dramatically shifted the FPS over the years, Siege X marks the beginning of an entirely “new era” for the game.

What exactly does that mean, and what does Siege X look like? Here’s everything you need to know.

Release date & times

Rainbow Six Siege X officially launches on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Ubisoft Connect.

Maintenance begins at 7 AM PDT / 10 AM EDT / 3 PM BST, at which point the servers will go down temporarily. They will be offline for around 90 minutes before the update is officially live.

What is Rainbow Six Siege X?

Rainbow Six Siege X is an expansion centered around a new 6v6 game mode called Dual Front, which takes place on a new map called District. In addition, Six Siege X launches with five new maps, and there will be three new maps every season.

When the match starts, it follows a familiar attackers—and—defenders—format as teams attempt to secure enemy sectors while defending their own. However, dynamic challenges also force teams to adapt.

The first season’s dynamic challenge is to capture a hostage and bring them to a net so they can be airlifted safely. Successfully extracting a hostage awards two sectors, which can decide the final result.

Rainbow Six Siege seasons typically last around three to four months, meaning a new dynamic objective will be added at the start of a new season. In addition, a limited number of operators will be available at any given time, and the pool changes twice every season.

Matches have a 30-minute timer and typically last 10 to 20 minutes. Players can respawn after dying.

Six Siege X also features visual enhancements, new animations, an advanced repel system, and exclusive rewards for series veterans.

Is Rainbow Six Siege X free?

Yes, Rainbow Six Siege X is a free update on current-gen platforms. Dual Front, Operator Onboarding, Quick Match, Events, and Unranked are available for no extra cost on June 10.

Ranked and Siege Cup are still locked behind premium access, and you need to be level 50 to play those game modes.

If you purchase any edition of Rainbow Six Siege before Siege X releases, you will maintain access to all modes, and all progression carries over.
