When battling in Niantic’s mobile game, players must consider a lot of factors, including a Pokemon‘s type, moveset, base stats, and – of course– its CP. However, at a basic level, you don’t need to look beyond the Combat Power, as it already considers all the base stats.
Irrespective of these other factors, and generally speaking, a species with a much higher CP will beat one with a much lower one, and it can even be powered up with Stardust and Candy. So, how high can a Pokemon’s CP go in the game?
What is the highest CP in Pokemon Go?
Currently, the highest CP in Pokemon Go is 5,629 and it belongs to Crowned Sword Zacian. However, there is a debate around this, as Crowned Sword Zacian is an alternate (though not temporary) form of Zacian Hero of Many Battles, whose CP is 4,329.
Pokemon Go has standard creatures you can access through a regular evolution, but also alternative non-temporary versions (such as Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta, Dialga and Palkia’s Origin Formes, and Kyurem and Cosmog’s fusions) and temporary versions such as the Primal Forms of Groudon and Kyogre and the Mega Evolutions.

The Lazy Pokemon also has super high Attack, Stamina, and HP stats, but defensively, is relatively weak, lacking a desirable moveset.
Its only Fast Move is Yawn, which deals no damage. While its Charged Moves include the powerful Hyper Beam and Earthquake, the energy per second (EPS) score of 8.8 for Yawn means that it not only deals zero damage, but you have to wait for 8.8. seconds to use a move that can hurt the opposing Pokemon.
Nevertheless, due to its high HP and stamina stat, it is frequently seen defending many gyms in Pokemon Go.

Regigigas – 4,913 CP
The Colossal Pokemon made its debut in October 2019 via a one-off Special Research story event. This special event cost $7.99 to purchase, but Regigigas was also available in Raids the following month.
Similar to other Pokemon on this list, Regigigas has an impressive Attack stat, which is complemented by very good Defense and Stamina stats.
Its Fast Moves of either Zen Headbutt or Headbutt, alongside the Charged Moves of Focus Blast, Giga Impact, and Thunder, also means it has both powerful and varied moves at its disposal.
Mewtwo – 4,724 CP
The Pokemon CompanySlaking at the top may have been a surprise, but seeing Mewtwo in the list shouldn’t shock anyone. With an Attack stat only surpassed by Deoxys and Kyurem, the fan-favorite from Kanto was always going to be high on the list.
Its Defense and Stamina stats leave little to be desired, but Mewtwo may have been too overpowered for the game if they had been higher. If you’re lucky enough to have found one with Confusion and Psystrike, you’ll know just how powerful Mewtwo is.
Crowned Shield Zamazenta – 4,717 CP
Both Crowned forms of Zacian and Zamazenta debuted during the Go Fest 2025 and quickly climbed the ranks thanks to their type combinations, strong movesets, and – of course – high max CP values.
While the dual Fairy/Steel type took the first spot, the Fighting/Steel-type Crowned Shield Zamazenta didn’t fall far behind with a smashing 4,717.
With less Attack, but higher Defense than its counterpart, Crowned Shield Zamazenta is a force to be reckoned with. Plus, its signature move, Behemoth Bash, has a DPS of 83.3!
Origin Forme Palkia – 4,683 CP
NianticSince its debut in the game, Origin Forme Palkia has established itself as one of the best fighters in the game, and up to this day, it sits at the top spot in our Master League ranking.
This intimidating creature has incredible Defense and HP stats, and – as if that wasn’t enough – it boasts an outstanding Attack stat of 286.
Its few weaknesses and incredibly strong move pool make Origin Forme Palkia a top option for any team.
Groudon & Kyogre – 4,652 CP
There’s a tie on the board when it comes to CP in Pokemon Go. Groudon and Kyogre actually mirror each other with a fantastic 4,652 CP and the same base stats.
The Gen 3 legends have been easy to obtain in Pokemon Go due to them being featured as research breakthrough encounters on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, these breakthroughs have a CP limit, so if you’re to obtain their maximum CP, it’ll cost you a lot of Stardust.
Interestingly, the other third of the Weather Trio, Rayquaza, has a maximum CP of 4,336, which is not enough to make it to the top of Pokemon Go.

Combat Power explained
Combat Power or CP is the overall measured strength of any creature in Pokemon Go. It is calculated from the Pokemon’s level, hidden base stats, and Individual Values (Attack, Defense, and Stamina).
The CP is displayed on top of the Pokemon with an arc that shows how much it can grow. More so, the difficulty of catching a wild creature is usually correlated to the Combat Power, and the higher the trainer’s level, the higher the CP of a Pokemon can be.
Trainers can increase the CP using Stardust and Candies. However, they must be careful, as a Pokemon with a high CP can have terrible IVs and vice-versa, making it weak in battle.
Conversely, a Pokemon with a low CP can have perfect IV values. As a result, it’s important to check a Pokemon’s IV using the appraisal feature Niantic introduced, or with an IV calculator such as PokeGenie if going into more detail.
Is there a CP limit in Pokemon Go?
As mentioned above, the CP is linked to each Pokemon, so the limit depends on the particular creature. This means every Slaking in the game can be powered up until 5,010, every Mewtwo can reach 4,724, and so on with the rest of them.
