Pokemon World Championship 2023 dates & location
The Pokemon World Championships 2023 event took place in Yokohama, Japan. The event began on August 11 and came to an end on August 13.
Yokohama, the home of the 2023 Pokemon World Championships, is the second-largest city in Japan.The opening ceremonies began on around 4 PM PST, with the first day of the competition beginning on Thursday, August 10 at 5 PM PST.

In the Pokemon TCG Masters Division, Vance Kelley took the Championship over Tord Reklev in Game 3, taking home the largest individual prize at $25,000.
In Pokemon VGC Masters Division, Shohei Kimura beat out Michael Kelsch, earning first place and taking home $10,000.
ItsAXN came out victorious in Pokemon Go, defeating xXRubixMasterXx in the Grand Finals. ItsAXN left the tournament with $10,000 in winnings.
Finally, team Luminosity became back-to-back World Champions after an impressive victory over OMO Abyssinian. Luminosity took home a shared prize pool of $100,000.
Closing Ceremony Announcements
First and foremost, Pokemon announced that the 2024 World Championship would take place in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Pokemon Company also debuted a brand new trailer for the Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC coming to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet later this year. The trailer revealed the starter Pokemon from past Generations will be available in Wave 2: The Indigo Disk.
Additionally, fans learned that three new Pokemon would be making their way to Pokemon Unite: Blaziken, Mimikyu, and Meowscarada.
TCG players were excited to learn that Paradox Pokemon would finally be introduced in the game after making their debut in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
