Pokemon TCG Pocket’s leaked Arceus EX introduces new mechanics

Arceus appearing in the Pokemon Anime.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s leaked Arceus EX card may be better than you thought based on a deep dive from players. New ‘tribal’ mechanics mean the card will see some play.

Pokemon TCG Pocket is only a very short way into the launch of the latest Space-Time Smackdown set, but it looks like we already know what’s around the corner. A new expansion similar to Mythical Island has leaked online, and players are already speculating about Triumphant Light.

While these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, they do come from an early upload on the official Pokemon TikTok. The hero of the set appears to be the Legendary Pokemon Arceus, but players of the game aren’t sold on its new EX card.

That might change thanks to some new mechanics dug up by some super sleuths in the Pokemon TCG Pocket fandom. Reddit user anonymous2437 has done a thorough investigation into the blurry images captured from the leaked Triumphant Light trailer, and Arceus EX may actually be playable.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Triumphant Light introduces Arceus EX synergies

A deep dive into the cards shown off in the hastily deleted trailer show that Pokemon TCG Pocket Triumphant Light’s Arceus EX and a few other cards from the set share a watermark of sorts. The circular symbol appears on Arceus EX as well as other leaked cards like a new Fire-type Heatran and Crobat.

While Arceus EX’s average HP and less-than-stellar damage output initially had players worried about its competitive viability, this new development could alleviate those fears. It appears that both Heatran and Crobat have abilities that activate with an Arceus EX in play.

While it’s hard to make out with complete accuracy, Heatran’s ability appears to negate its retreat cost with an Arceus EX on the board. Crobat’s seems far more useful as it allows players to deal 30 damage to your opponent’s active Pokemon once per turn.

Thanks to Arceus EX’s Colorless nature, it can be easily slotted into Dark-type decks that excel in tacking on chip damage. We shudder to think about the prospect of a Darkrai EX, Crobat, and Arceus EX combo dominating the Triumphant Light meta.

It’s far too early to tell if Heatran and Crobat are the only cards that will feature this synergistic new watermark. If more is revealed when Pokemon TCG Pocket Triumphant Light releases, Arceus EX may find its way into a number of decks.
