Pokemon Legends Z-A rumors have started circulating online at a dizzying pace, and one claim by a reputable leaker could be a huge turn-off for collectors.
While the spinoff series is still in its infancy, 2022’s Legends Arceus established several unconventional firsts for the franchise that many had expected to be carried forward for any potential sequel.
In addition to unique battle and capture systems and more traditional quest-based story progression, Arceus introduced numerous never-before-seen evolutions and regional variants for existing ‘mons. Completely new entries for the Pokedex had previously been restricted to the mainline RPGs only.
If a leak that started doing the rounds on March 25 proves accurate, however, Trainers’ won’t find any new species when they return to the Kalos region.
No surprises for Legends Z-A’s Pokedex
Corroborating claims from anonymous leaker, Centro Leaks claimed that Legends Z-A will “not introduce any new Pokemon species” during its runtime.
Due to their vague nature, it’s unclear if the leakers’ comments imply that no new Pokemon whatsoever will be present or if the only additions will be alternate forms or variants of existing species rather than wholly original designs.
Either way, with Mega Evolution confirmed to be making a comeback in Z-A, it could very well be the case that the lion’s share of Game Freak’s resources have been reserved for that purpose.
While Mega Evolution is only temporary, any ‘mon that can undergo the process still experiences a substantial form change. If the purported figure of 27 new Mega Evolutions holds any weight, that’s a substantial demand on character artists’ time and, interestingly, would line up relatively well with Legends Arceus’ 22 contributions to the National Pokedex.
Alternatively, all of the above could be complete fiction – we won’t know for sure until Pokemon Legends Z-A lands sometime in fall 2025.
