Yveltal is returning to Pokemon Go as part of the Dual Destiny season, so we’ve rounded up its weaknesses and best counters to help you defeat it in 5-Star Raid battles.
Known as the Destruction Pokemon, the bird-like Yveltal first appeared in Pokemon X & Y’s Kalos region and then debuted in Pokemon Go in May 2021. It certainly lives up to its name, with a fearsome design and a huge amount of power that placed it at the top of the Master League.
If you’ve not managed to catch one yet, or you’re on the hunt for a Shiny version, you’ll be glad to know that Yveltal is returning as a Raid Boss along with its counterpart, Xerneas.
To help you defeat this powerful Legendary, here are the best counters to take advantage of Yveltal’s weaknesses.
Yveltal weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Yveltal is a dual Dark/Flying-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Electric, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type moves. You’ll want to focus on counters of these types for the best chance at taking it down, and luckily, there are plenty of useful options available in the game.
On the flip side, Yveltal can resist Ground, Psychic, Ghost, Grass, and Dark types, so avoid taking Pokemon of these types into battle.
Another important thing to remember: this Legendary’s power is boosted by Fog and Windy weather, so it’s best to avoid battling it during these conditions – unless you want a more difficult challenge, that is.

How to get Yveltal in Pokemon Go
As with all other Legendaries, the only way players can get Yveltal in Pokemon Go is by defeating it in 5-Star Raid battles and then capturing it using the Premier Balls given based on your performance.
Luckily for trainers, this mighty creature is returning to the game due to the latest raid rotations, so they’ll have the chance to capture it from February 17, 2025, until February 24, 2025, along with Xerneas.

Additionally, both will be featured in a Raid Hour on February 19, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time.
Yveltal and Xerneas will be accompanied by Mega Garchomp in Mega Raids.

Can Yveltal be Shiny?
Yes, Yveltal can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this version was added at the start of the Fashion Week event in 2022, and players will have the chance to find it during the Pokemon’s comeback.

Shiny Yveltal’s colors are quite different from the regular version, as the red has a more deep tone and the black details on the wings and tail are white instead of black.
Although Legendary Raid Bosses have a higher chance of being Shiny than regular wild spawns, it’s still going to require a mix of luck and persistence to find a Shiny Yveltal, as there’s no secret or special method to secure an encounter of this type.
That’s everything you need to know about Yveltal’s weaknesses and the best counters to take it down in Pokemon Go. Remember to check out the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
