There are over 20 different Team Go Rocket Grunts roaming the world of Pokemon Go, and each one offers the chance to score a Shadow creature once defeated.
Even though they are considered the lowest-ranking members of the villainous Team Go Rocket, it’s still important to challenge them, as every win nets you a Mysterious Component. Once you collect six pieces, you can craft a Rocket Radar to hunt down one of the Leaders: Giovanni, Cliff, Sierra, or Arlo.
However, there’s a catch: Grunts never reveal their full hand upfront. Instead, they’ll throw out a taunt that drops a subtle hint about their type specialty, leaving you to piece together what kind of team you’ll be up against.
If you come across ‘You’re no match for my iron will’, it means you’ll be facing the very resistant Steel-type. So, get ready to battle with our top counters.
The Grunt lineups shown below are correct as of August 13, 2025, following the Delightful Days: Taken Over event from August 11, 2025.
Current ‘You’re no match for my iron will!’ lineup
As mentioned above, this particular Grunt will only use Steel-type Pokemon, with the following potential encounters:
PHASE 1 | PHASE 2 | PHASE 3 |
---|---|---|
Alolan Diglett ![]() | Skarmory ![]() | Scizor ![]() |
Alolan Sandshrew ![]() | Lairon ![]() | Aggron ![]() |
Beldum* ![]() | Metang ![]() | Alolan Sandslash ![]() |
Note: Pokemon marked with a * can be Shiny.
As you can see from the potential lineups above, some of them are dual types and have family resemblances.
- Alolan Sandshrew and Alolan Sandslash are Ice/Steel types, while Beldum and Metang are Steel/Psychic, and Lairon and Aggron boast the Steel/Rock type combo.
- As for the three that don’t have any family resemblance, Alolan Diglett is Ground/Steel, Skarmory is Steel/Flying, and Scizor is Bug/Steel.
All of the possible opponents are weak against Fire (except for Lairon and Aggron), so your team should definitely have a strong Fire-type, mainly to go up against Skarmory and Scizor. Also, most of them are immune to Poison, so avoid those at all costs.
Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Sandslash, Lairon, Aggron, and Alolan Diglett are all weak against Fighting types, so add one of those too.
For extra security, use a Ground type in case the rest of your team faints. It can help cover Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Sandslash, Beldum, Metang, Lairon, Aggron, and Alolan Diglett.
