Pokemon Go has a special mechanic called Adventure Effects, but it’s reserved for only extremely powerful creatures. Here’s exactly what they are and how they work in Niantic’s mobile game.
The Origin Formes of Dialga and Palkia introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus debuted in Pokemon Go in February 2024, in addition to a new mechanic that allows players to obtain special bonuses in a new way.
Since then, Niantic announced a few more Adventure Effects, such as Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam for Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively.
Here’s everything we know about Adventure Effects, including recent additions and how to use them.
What are Adventure Effects in Pokemon Go?
Niantic describes Adventure Effects as “temporary bonuses” to help Pokemon Go trainers. These involve Pokemon using powerful attacks – based on their signature moves – outside of battle to bestow useful effects for a limited time.
As mentioned above, the mechanic was added to the game when Dialga and Palkia’s Origin Formes debuted during the Go Tour: Sinnoh in 2024.
However, over time, a few more have been added, offering players a wider catalog to use and benefit from during their Go adventures. More so, developers have assured the list will only continue to grow.
Every Adventure Effect explained
Roar of Time
Origin Forme Dialga’s signature move, Roar of Time, fittingly impacts timers in Pokemon Go. More specifically, it pauses the timer on Incense, Daily Adventure Incense, Lucky Eggs, and Star Pieces while active.
While Roar of Time lasts for a baseline of six minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Dialga Candies, you can spend additional Stardust and Dialga Candy to extend that time in six-minute increments up to a total of two hours. After that, you can tap “Use again” to add more time (again up to two hours), with the max being 24 hours total.

This move can be quite useful for catching the Galarian Legendary Bird trio. Why? The three can only be lured with the Daily Adventure Incense. Thus, lengthening the amount of time it’s active theoretically means more opportunities to encounter and catch one.

Spacial Rend
Origin Forme Palkia has access to Spacial Rend. When active, this distorts space and allows you to encounter wild Pokemon from an increased distance.
Spacial Rend lasts for a baseline of 10 minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Palkia Candies to activate. As with Roar of Time, you can spend more Stardust and Palkia Candy to extend the effect in 10-minute increments for up to two hours. After that, you can tap “Use again” to add more time (again up to two hours), with the max being 24 hours total.
Sunsteel Strike
By fusing Necrozma with Solgaleo, you’ll get Dusk Mane Necrozma, who will learn the Charged Attack Sunsteel Strike. When Sunsteel Strike is active, creatures that appear during the daytime will spawn more frequently near your location.
Additionally, Pokemon that can only evolve during the daytime – like Eevee into Espeon – can evolve at any time with Sunsteel Strike active.
Sunsteel Strike lasts 10 minutes and costs 3,000 Stardust and three Necrozma Candy to activate. Like other Adventure Effects, you can extend Sunsteel Strike’s duration in 10-minute increments by using more Stardust and Necrozma Candy.
Because of how it works, it’s worth noting that Sunsteel Strike cannot be active simultaneously as another Adventure Effect, an Incense, a Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or the Coin Bag.
The list of Pokemon that can spawn includes (in order of likeability): Pidgey, Yungoos, Cottonee, Helioptile, Tyrunt, Fomantis, Solrock, Alolan Exeggutor, Rockruff, and Rockruff (Dusk Form).

Moongeist Beam
By fusing Necrozma with Lunala, you’ll get Dawn Wings Necrozma, who will learn the Charged Attack Moongeist Beam. When Moongeist Beam is active, creatures that appear during the nighttime will be attracted to your location.
Additionally, Pokemon that can only evolve during the nighttime – like Eevee into Umbreon or Ursaring into Ursaluna – can evolve at any time with Moongeist Beam active.
Moongeist Beam lasts 10 minutes and costs 3,000 Stardust and three Necrozma Candy to activate. You can also extend Moongeist Beam’s duration in 10-minute increments by using more Stardust and Necrozma Candy.
Just like Sunsteel Strike, Moongeist Beam cannot be active simultaneously as another Adventure Effect, an Incense, a Daily Adventure Incense, the Mystery Box, or the Coin Bag.
The list of Pokemon that can spawn includes (in order of likeability): Gligar, Alolan Rattata, Clefairy, Munna, Amaura, Galarian Zigzagoon, Lunatone, Alolan Marowak, Rockruff, and Rockruff (Dusk Form).
Freeze Shock
Players who fuse a Kyurem that knows the Charged Move Glaciate with Zekrom can get a Black Kyurem with the Charged Move known as Freeze Shock.
When Freeze Shock is activated, the Pokemon trainers encounter will be frozen due to its electrically charged ice and won’t be able to move, making them easier to catch.
Freeze Shock lasts 10 minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Kyurem Candy to activate. You can extend the timer for this Adventure Effect in increments of 10 minutes by using more Stardust and Candy. The duration can be extended up to two hours each time you tap ‘Use’, and you can do it up to 24 hours total.
The powerful Freeze Shock cannot be activated simultaneously with another Adventure Effect. Plus, after the players defuse Black Kyurem, Freeze Shock will go back to being Glaciate.

Ice Burn
Players who fuse a Kyurem that knows the Charged Move Glaciate with Reshiram can get a White Kyurem with the Charged Move known as Ice Burn.
When Ice Burn is activated, chilling energy will be cast, and the target ring in Pokemon encounters will move more slowly, making it easier to land Excellent Throws.
Ice Burn lasts for 10 minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Kyurem Candy to activate. You can extend the timer for this Adventure Effect in increments of 10 minutes by using more Stardust and Candy. The duration can be extended up to two hours each time you tap ‘Use’, and you can do it up to 24 hours total.
The powerful Ice Burn cannot be activated simultaneously with another Adventure Effect. Plus, after the players defuse White Kyurem, Ice Burn will go back to being Glaciate.
Behemoth Blade
When players change Zacian from its Hero of Many Battle form to its Crowned Sword form using Crowend Sword Energy, its Charged Move “Iron Head” changes to “Behemoth Blade”.
The Charged Move Behemoth Blade is also an Adventure Effect that, when activated by players, increases their Pokemon’s attacks in Raid and Max Battles.
The effect lasts for six minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Zacian Candy to activate.
The powerful Behemoth Blade cannot be activated simultaneously with another Adventure Effect. Plus, if the players change Crowned Sword Zacian back to its regular form, Behemoth Blade goes back to being Iron Head.

Behemoth Bash
When players change Zamazenta from its Hero of Many Battle form to its Crowned Shield form using Crowend Shield Energy, its Charged Move “Iron Head” changes to “Behemoth Bash”.
The Charged Move Behemoth Bash is also an Adventure Effect that, when activated by players, increases their Pokemon’s defense in Raid and Max Battles.
The effect lasts for six minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and five Zamazenta Candy to activate.
The powerful Behemoth Bash cannot be activated simultaneously with another Adventure Effect. Plus, if the players change Crowned Shield Zamazenta back to its regular form, Behemoth Bash goes back to being Iron Head.
Dynamax Cannon
Eternatu’s exclusive Charged Move – Dynamax Cannon – also happens to be an Adventure Effect, which can temporarily boost the user’s Pokemon’s Max Moves by one level in Max Battles.
The effect lasts for ten minutes and costs 5,000 Stardust and 30 Eternatus Candy to activate.
However, Max Moves that are locked will temporarily be raised to Level 1, whilñe those which have been fully trained to Level 3 will reach Level 4, giving them an outsized power relative to a standard level up.

Trainers can extend the timer for Dynamax Cannon in increments of 10 minutes by using extra Stardust and Eternatus Candy. The Adventure Effect’s duration can be extended up to two hours each time you tap Use, and you can tap Use up to 24 hours total. Plus, unlike most Adventure Effects, this one can be activated simultaneously.
Pokemon & their Adventure Effects
Here’s every Pokemon that can benefit from this mechanic:
POKEMON | SPRITE | ADVENTURE EFFECT | COST | DURATION |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dialga Origin Forme | ![]() | Roar of Time | x5000 Stadust + x5 Dialga Candy | 6 minutes |
How to use Adventure Effects
Players who have a Pokemon that is capable of triggering an Adventure Effect can activate it by going to the creature’s main page and scrolling down to the “Adventure Effects” section.
Adventure Effects cost Stardust and Candy to activate, with the amount increasing based on how long you’d like the Effect to last. You can extend the length after activating an Adventure Effect, with the max being 24 hours.
It’s worth noting that you can only activate one Adventure Effect at a time.
