Pokemon Go: Regional exclusives list & where to find them

Just like in the mainline games, Pokemon Go features regional exclusives for players to catch. These special companions only spawn in certain areas around the world.

Regionally exclusive Pokemon have always been a pain point for fans of the video game franchise. Whether it’s Galarian Ponyta only appearing in Galar’s Shield version of the Past and Future Paradox species of Scarlet & Violet, it’s never been easy to catch ’em all. This is also the case for Pokemon Go.

The mobile app‘s take on regionally exclusive catches may be the most difficult of any other iteration, with specific species only appearing in select areas around the world. This means that players won’t be able to complete their Pokedex unless they do some serious traveling.

If you know you are going to be traveling to areas that may spawn different Pokemon Go regional exclusives than what you normally have access to, it may be good to check a few of the spawn maps that have been put together by players. This includes the following Infographic from TheSilphRoad:

Additionally, trainer Zoglandboy on Reddit built an interactive world map that players can use to see what spawns are available in which areas. This map allows users to toggle certain elements on and off for an easier reading experience.

It is important to note that both of these maps are older, with TheSilphRoad published in 2019, and the interactive map last updated in 2022. Because of this, a few newer entries may not be present on the preset lists.

For those stressed about the rarity of these Pokemon, it is possible for certain spawns to change location, or for exclusives to be removed from the list. This has happened with Plusle and Minun. Niantic has also very occasionally included regional exclusives in events, though this doesn’t happen often enough for it to be a reliable method of hunting them.

How to get regional exclusives in Pokemon Go

To obtain regional exclusives in Pokemon Go, players must travel to the needed spawn locations or trade with someone who has traveled and caught the desired Pokemon. However, these trades can only be done in person, which does complicate the attempt to swap missing Pokedex entries.

Players can also obtain regional exclusives by hatching eggs from gifts given in the region of the needed Pokemon spawns. However, these hatches aren’t guaranteed, so they may require many gifted eggs to obtain the desired catch.

If it’s starting to sound like regional Pokemon are out of your reach, here comes the good news: Many regional Pokemon will eventually appear globally for a limited time during events such as Pokemon Go Fest or the annual Tour events, so keep an eye out!

One thing that has never appeared globally is region-specific forms like Furfrou trims or Vivillon patterns. This is likely because you can still technically complete your Pokedex without them, as these forms are purely cosmetic variations of the original Pokemon.
