Mega Kangaskhan and its new Charged Move will be featured in the upcoming Pokemon Go Raid Day to celebrate its sheer power. So, let’s go over its weaknesses, resistances, and best counters to bring along.
Over the years, Niantic has introduced plenty of Mega Evolutions to Pokemon Go, and even though almost all of them have already debuted, spotting them depends on the Raid rotations.
Mega Kangaskhan hasn’t appeared as a Mega Raid boss for over eight months, but that is about to change, as the Might and Mastery season is giving the powerful creature its own Raid Day.
Mega Kangaskhan weaknesses in Pokemon Go
As a pure Normal-type Pokemon, Mega Kangaskhan is only weak to Fighting-type attacks. Although building a team with a single type may sound insufficient, it is not, as there are a bunch of incredibly tough options to pick from.
Similarly, Mega Kangaskhan is only resistant to one type: Ghost. This means players should avoid bringing any Ghost-type Pokemon or moves into the Raid.
Mega Kangaskhan best counters
Here are some of the best counters for defeating Mega Kangaskhan in Pokemon Go:
POKEMON | SPRITE | BEST MOVESET |
---|---|---|
Mega Lucario | ![]() | Force Palm & Aura Sphere |
Mega Heracross | ![]() | Counter & Close Combat |
Shadow Conkeldurr | ![]() | Counter & Dynamic Punch |

We’ve included a mix of Megas, Legendaries, Shadow, and more common Pokemon in the table above, so there should be something for every trainer to use.
If you don’t have any of those counters or their alternate forms, use your strongest Fighting-type Pokemon to target Mega Kangaskhan’s only weakness. Just make sure that your team is properly leveled up and has matching movesets.
How to get Mega Kankaskhan in Pokemon Go
Mega Kangaskhan will take over 5-Star Raid battles for just three hours during its Raid Day, which will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time.
Remember that you cannot catch Mega Kangaskhan in its Mega Evolved form. Instead, once you defeat it, you’ll get the chance to catch a regular Kangaskhan using the Premiere Balls given – the number of balls will be tied to your performance during the battle.

Once you have your standard Kangaskhan and the required Mega Energy, then you can temporarily Mega Evolve it.
It’s worth noting that if you catch a Kangaskhan during its Raid Day, it will know the Normal-type Charged Move Stomp.
How to evolve Kangaskhan into Mega Kangaskhan
As mentioned above, when a trainer defeats and catches a Mega Evolved Pokemon, it returns to its regular form. This means that every time a player wants to trigger a Mega Evolution, they must use Mega Energy.
The first time a player evolves a regular Kangaskhan into Mega Kangaskhan, they will require 200 Mega Energy. Once the effect is over, the amount will drop to 40, then 20, and finally 10.

Mega Energy
Players can gather Mega Energy by defeating Mega Evolved Pokemon in Mega Raids several times. Additionally, they can earn some more by completing Field Research Tasks and by setting their Pokemon (in this case, Kangaskhan) as their Buddy and going out for a walk.
It’s worth noting that for Kangaskhan to be able to collect Mega Energy while taking a spin, it must have been Mega Evolved at least once before.
Mega Kangaskhan CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Mega Kangaskhan has during a Mega Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch its regular form. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Raid Boss CP | 47,948 |
CP range once captured | 2112 – 2200 |
Snow/Cloudy weather CP range | 2640 – 2750 |
Mega Kangaskhan max CP (Level 50) | 4353 |
Mega Kangaskhan stats & moves
As a pure Normal-type Pokemon, Mega Kangaskhan has the following stats:

Can Mega Kangaskhan be Shiny?
Yes, Mega Kangaskhan can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was introduced into the game on the same day as the Mega Evolution was.

Shiny hunters can easily spot Shiny Mega Kangaskhan as the mother’s skin changes from brown to gray, and the kid’s goes from light violet to lilac. However, the main feature players can look for are their green “helmets” which are usually dark brown.
To keep you from being disappointed, remember that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon in the game are very low, and there’s no special technique to ensure an encounter. All you can do to increase your odds is challenge Mega Kangaskhan as many times as you can during its time as a Mega Raid boss.
In case you cannot find one, you can simply Mega Evolve a regular Shiny Kangaskhan to get what you’re after.
