Even though Heracross has been available in Niantic’s game since 2017, its very strong Mega Evolution has been part of it for only a year, which means players have had only a few chances to catch it.
Luckily for them, the Might and Mastery season is bringing Mega Heracross back for an extremely limited time, as it will be featured in the upcoming Sparring Partners event along with fellow Fighting creatures like Hariyama and Scraggy.
Mega Heracross weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Mega Heracross is a dual Bug/Fighting-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak to Fire, Psychic, and Fairy-type moves, with a double weakness toward Flying attacks. This leaves players with a vast range of options to build their teams, especially Flying-type ones.
Consequently, Mega Heracross is resistant to Bug, Dark, Fighting, Grass, and Ground-type attacks, so avoid using those at all costs, as they won’t do much damage.

If you don’t have any of those counters or their alternate forms, use your strongest Fire, Psychic, Fairy, and Flying-type Pokemon to target Mega Heracross’ weaknesses. Just make sure that your team is properly leveled up and has matching movesets.
How to get Mega Heracross in Pokemon Go
As a Mega Evolution, players can only get Mega Heracross by defeating it during a Mega Raid, and even though it is not included in this month’s Raid rotations, it will be featured in the Sparring Partners event which will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time.

It’s worth noting that trainers cannot catch Mega Heracross in its Mega Evolved form. Instead, once they manage to take it down, they’ll be given the chance to catch a regular Heracross using Premiere Balls. The number of balls they get will depend on their performance during the battle.
Once they gather the required Mega Energy, they can temporarily Mega Evolve their strongest standard Heracross.
How to evolve Heracross into Mega Heracross
As mentioned above, when a trainer defeats and catches a Mega Evolved Pokemon, it returns to its regular form. This means that every time they want to trigger a Mega Evolution, they must use Mega Energy.
The first time a player evolves Heracross into Mega Heracross, they must spend 200 Mega Energy. Once the effect is over, the amount required to do it again will drop to 40, then 20, and finally 10.

Players can gather the required Mega Energy by defeating Mega Heracross multiple times. Additionally, they can earn some more by completing Field Research Tasks and by setting their regular Heracross as their Buddy and taking it for a spin.
It’s worth noting that for Heracross to be able to collect Mega Energy while walking, it must have been Mega Evolved at least once.

As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Mega Heracross has during a Mega Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch its regular form. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.

Yes, Mega Heracross can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was introduced into the game on the same day the Mega Evolution debuted.

Remember that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, and there’s no special technique to secure an encounter. All players can do to increase their odds is challenge Mega Heracross as many times as they can during its time as a Mega Raid boss.
