Mega Absol, one of the game’s most desired Mega Evolutions, is finally back in Pokemon Go. To prepare yourself, here are all its weaknesses and the best counters to easily defeat this powerful boss in battle.
Mega Pokemon have been a part of Pokemon Go for a while now, and even though a few new ones have been making their way into the game, some ultimate fan favorites can’t go unnoticed, like Mega Absol.
This mighty Pokemon is coming back, but not for a prolonged time, as it is usual. Instead, it will be in Mega Raids for just a few hours to celebrate its own special Raid Day. So, here’s all you need to take advantage of the event and get yourself a Mega Absol.
Mega Absol weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Mega Absol is a pure Dark-type Pokemon, which means its three main weaknesses are Fairy, Fighting, and Bug-type moves. It may seem like you’ll have only a few options to build a top team that can take down Mega Absol but don’t fret, as there are plenty of Pokemon to choose from.
As for its resistances, Mega Absol will have no problem standing strong against Ghost, Dark, and Psychic-type Pokemon, so avoid taking these into battle wherever possible.

How to get Mega Absol in Pokemon Go
You’ll be able to challenge Mega Absol just for three hours during its Mega Raid Day, which will take place on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM local time. However, trainers must remember that they cannot catch Mega Evolved Pokemon in the game.
Instead, once they manage to defeat Mega Absol, they’ll be given the chance to catch a regular Absol using the Premiere Balls given – the amount of balls they get will be tied to their performance during battle.
After that, to temporarily Mega Evolve their strongest standard Absol, they’ll first need to stock up on the Mega Energy they get as a reward for defeating this mighty creature.
How to evolve Absol into Mega Absol
As mentioned above, when a trainer defeats and catches a Mega Evolved Pokemon, it returns to its regular form, meaning that every time they want to trigger a Mega Evolution, they must use Mega Energy.
The first time a player evolves Absol into Mega Absol, they must spend 200 Mega Energy. Once the effect is over, the amount required will drop to 40, then 20, and finally 10.

Mega Energy
Players can gather at least 50 Mega Energy every time they defeat Mega Absol in Mega Raids, so they must take it down multiple times to gather the required amount.
Additionally, trainers can earn extra Mega Energy by completing Field Research Tasks and by setting Absol as their Buddy and going for a walk.
It’s worth noting that for Absol to be able to collect Mega Energy while walking around, it must have been Mega Evolved at least once before.
Mega Absol CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, Mega Absol’s CP during a Mega Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch it. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Raid Boss CP | 37,583 |
CP range once captured | 1799 – 1886 |
Fog weather CP range | 2249 – 2358 |
Mega Absol max CP (Level 50) | 3732 |

Can Mega Absol be Shiny?
Yes, Mega Absol can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was added to the game on the same day this Mega Evolution debuted.

Players looking for Shiny Mega Absol can easily recognize it by the red details on its face, horn, tail, and claws, which are usually dark gray.
If you defeat a Mega Absol, the Shiny encounter rate is slightly higher than in a normal encounter, so you actually have better chances of finding Shiny Mega Absol.
