
Pokemon Go‘s newest season is kicking off with a slew of Mega Raids occurring throughout June. Mega Abomasnow is among the creatures featured, and here are its weaknesses and best counters.
The Mega Evolution of the Grass/Ice-type Pokemon Abomasnow was introduced to the mobile game in December 2020, and even though it’s not amongst the best Mega Evolutions available in Pokemon Go, avid collectors will want to challenge it anyway.

Mega Abomasnow weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Considering Mega Abomasnow is a dual Grass/Ice-type, it has a double weakness against Fire-type attacks. It’s also vulnerable to Fighting, Flying, Poison, Rock, Bug, and Steel-type moves, leaving players open with several options to build their teams.
As for Mega Abomasnow’s resistances, you’ll want to avoid using Ground, Water, Grass, and Electric-type attacks during the encounter as they won’t do significant damage.

How to get Mega Abomasnow in Pokemon Go
As with all the other Mega Evolutions in Pokemon Go, the only way players can get Mega Abomasnow in the game is through Mega Raids.
Luckily for trainers, this intimidating creature will be back as a Raid boss from June 5, 2025, until June 14, 2025, right after Mega Gyarados leaves.
It’s worth noting that, just like with all the other Mega Evolutions, you cannot catch Mega Abomasnow in its Mega Evolved form. Instead, you’ll have to defeat it for a chance to catch its regular form with the Premier Balls you are given after the encounter.
Once you have have, you can stock up on Mega Energy to temporarily Mega Evolve your strongest standard Abomasnow.
How to evolve Abomasnow into Mega Abomasnow
As mentioned above, when a trainer defeats and catches a Mega Evolved Pokemon, it returns to its regular form. This means that every time they want to trigger a Mega Evolution, they must use Mega Energy.
The first time you Mega Evolve Abomasnow into Mega Abomasnow, you’ll require 200 Mega Energy. Afterwards, the triggering cost will drop to 40, 20, and eventually 10.

Players can gather Mega Energy by constantly defeating Mega Evolved Pokemon in Mega Raids. Additionally, they can earn some more by completing Field Research Tasks and by setting their Pokemon (in this case, Abomasnow) as their Buddy and going out for a spin.
It’s worth noting that for Abomasnow to be able to collect Mega Energy while walking around, it must have been Mega Evolved at least once before.

Can Mega Abomasnow be Shiny?
Yes, Mega Abomasnow can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as it was released on the same day the Mega form debuted in the game.

Unlike regular Mega Abomasnow, Shiny Mega Abomasnow has blue details instead of green, as a nod to its Ice-typing instead of Grass. Other than that, the Pokemon’s body remains white as usual.
Keep in mind that the odds of encountering a Shiny Mega Evolution are very low. However, the more Mega Abomasnow Raids you take on, the more chances you’ll have.
If you cannot find a Shiny Mega Abomasnow despite your efforts, you can just Mega Evolve a regular Shiny Abomasnow if you have one.
