The Legendary Heatran is coming back to Pokemon Go as a Raid boss, so here are our recommended counters to build a team that can target this tough creature’s weaknesses and deplete its health fast.
Being able to catch Legendaries is one of the best parts of playing Pokemon Go. However, as the most powerful creatures available, they’re hard to take down and rarely easy to secure.
In Heatran’s case, it boasts many resistances, so players need to be properly ready before challenging it in 5-Star Raid battles. So, if you want to take down this Legendary fast now that it’s back in Niantic’s game, here’s how.
Heatran weaknesses in Pokemon Go
The Legendary Heatran is a dual Fire/Steel-type Pokemon, which means it’s only weak against Fighting, Water, and Ground-type (x2) moves, so focus on those when building your team and picking their attacks.
You’ll also need to consider Heatran’s resistances, as there are a lot of them, including Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, and Steel-type attacks.
Because of its incredible list of resistances – as well as being one of the bulkiest Fire-type options in Pokemon Go – Heatran is a magnificent Raid Boss, so be smart before heading out to battle.

How to get Heatran in Pokemon Go
As with most Legendaries, the only way to catch Heatran in Pokemon Go is by challenging it to battle when it appears in 5-Star Raids. If you manage to defeat it, you’ll be given a certain amount of Premier Balls – based on your performance – to attempt a catch.
Those who are still missing one or want a Heatran with perfect IVs can fight it from March 22, 2025, until March 31, 2025, as it will return to the game as a Raid boss for the Might and Mastery season.

Additionally, Heatran will be featured in a Raid Hour taking place on March 26, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time.
When challenging this Legendary, try to use Golden Razz Berries and land Excellent Curveball Throws to increase your chances of catching it.

Can Heatran be Shiny?
Yes, Heatran can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as this special variation was added to the game back in January 2020 and players have been allowed to hunt after it during the many Raids Heatran has been a Boss in.

Shiny Heatran can be recognized by its lighter body, which turns from deep brown to red/orange, but mainly by its big bright fuchsia eyes.
It’s worth noting that there’s no special method to increase the odds of coming across a Shiny Heatran. The only way to find one is to participate in as many Raid battles as you can and hope for good fortune.
