NIANTICThe Rock/Flying fossil, Archen, will be featured in the upcoming Catch Mastery event in Pokemon Go, giving players the chance to finally evolve it into Archeops.
Archen is a fossil Pokemon introduced to the franchise in Gen 5’s Unova region. It is known as the First Bird Pokemon, and in Niantic’s mobile game, it is currently one of the hardest creatures to find.
With a wild spawn rate of almost zero, Archen can barely be seen walking around Pokemon Go’s map. However, the Catch Mastery event is about to change that, as players will have at least 40 chances to encounter it and – maybe – finally evolve it.
Catch Mastery event: Date & time
Pokemon Go’s Catch Mastery event will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM local time.
The event won’t last long, but it will give players enough time to catch all the Archen they can and finally gather the required amount of Candy to evolve it into Archeops.
Moreover, while trying to get the bird’s evolution, they might encounter a Shiny Archen.
Wild encounters
During the event, players will come across these other fossil Pokemon in the wild more frequently:
- Omanyte*
- Kabuto*
Pokemon marked with an (*) can appear as Shiny.
Event bonuses
The Catch Mastery event will offer players the following bonuses:
- Increased chance of encountering Shiny Omanyte, Shiny Kabuto, and Shiny Archen.
- x2 XP for successfully catching Pokemon with Nice Throws or better.
- x2 XP for successfully catching Pokemon with Curveball Throws.
DEXERTOField Research Task
Tasks focused on the players’ Poke Ball-throwing accuracy will be available during the event. Those who manage to get through the tasks will get Archen encounters, with increased odds of spotting a Shiny one.
Timed Research
A Timed Research focused on Rock-type Pokemon will be available during the whole event. Trainers who complete 10 sets of Research tasks can encounter a total of 40 Archen!
Paid Timed Research
Additionally, an event-exclusive Timed Research will be available for US$ 2.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency).
The Timed Research rewards include:
- 40 additional encounters with Archen!
Keep in mind that the Timed Research has an expiration date, so trainers must complete the tasks and claim all the rewards before March 16, 2025, at 8:00 PM local time.
Besides purchasing tickets, players can gift them to their friends. However, they must have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher to do so.
