Both Black & White Kyurem will debut in Pokemon Go Raid battles during the 2025 Go Tour Unova event. For those brave players who dare challenge them, here are their weaknesses and our recommended counters.
Even though the Legendary Tao Trio – Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem – have been part of Pokemon Go since 2020, their fused forms Black Kyurem and White Kyurem have not been released. Until Now.
Due to this year’s Pokemon Go Tour being focused on the Unova region, both Black & White 2 Legendary mascots will debut in Niantic’s game. Learn all their weaknesses before challenging them, so you don’t get knocked out of battle.
Black & White Kyurem weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Both Black Kyurem and White Kyurem are dual Dragon/Ice-type Pokemon, which means they are weak against Dragon, Fairy, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves. Luckily, this leaves players with a wide range of options to build their teams.
As for their resistances, be aware of Electric, Grass, and Water-type attacks. There’s no use in trying to hit them with any of these, as they won’t be able to deal crucial damage.

How to get Black & White Kyurem in Pokemon Go
Black Kyurem and White Kyurem will debut in Pokemon Go during the 2025 Pokemon Go Tour Unova, and similar to other Legendaries, players can only obtain them through 5-Star Raid battles.

They’ll first appear in the New Taipei City and Los Angeles in-person event, which will run from February 21, 2025, until February 23, 2025. Then, they’ll return for the Global event that will kick off on March 1, 2025, until March 2, 2025.

Players will have to challenge and defeat them when they appear as 5-Star Raid bosses. However, they cannot be caught in their fused forms. Instead, players will be given the chance to catch a regular Kyurem using a limited amount of Premier Balls.
Then, trainers will have to stock up on Volt or Blaze Fusion Energy and Candy to fuse such Kyurem with their own Zekrom or Reshiram.
How to fuse Kyurem with Zekrom & Reshiram
Once you manage to catch regular Kyurem, you can either fuse it with Zekrom or Reshiram. Here are the specified requirements to trigger this new mechanic:
Black Kyurem
- Kyurem
- Zekrom
- x1,000 Volt Fusion Energy
- x30 Kyurem Candy
- x30 Zekrom Candy
White Kyurem
- Kyurem
- Reshiram
- x1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy
- x30 Kyurem Candy
- x30 Reshiram Candy
The new items known as Volt or Blaze Fusion Energy are a very rare source of power that can only be obtained in the game by defeating multiple Black or White Kyurem in Raid battles.
Fused Kyurem will remain in this form until the player separates them. But worry not, as separating the Pokemon will have no cost at all.

Can Black & White Kyurem be Shiny?
Yes, both Black Kyurem and White Kyurem can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as these special versions will be released in the game at the same time as their regular ones.

Players can recognize Shiny Black Kyurem and Shiny White Kyurem due to the purple-ish tones on several parts of their bodies like arms, shoulders, horns, and wings. These details are usually a slight blue, so should be easy to spot them. Plus, their grey body parts turn darker.
Because you cannot catch Black Kyurem or White Kyurem, once you defeat their Shinies, you’ll get a Shiny Kyurem instead. So once you fuse your Shiny Kyurem with a regular Zekrom or Reshiram, you’ll get these fantastic alternative versions.
Just remember that finding a Shiny in Pokemon Go is quite hard and there’s no special method to secure an encounter or to even increase your odds. All you can do is take on as many Raids as you can in hopes you come across what you’re looking for.
That’s everything you need to know to take down Black & White Kyurem in Pokemon Go Raid battles. Remember to check out the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
