Pokemon Go Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf Raid guide – Weaknesses & best counters

pokemon go uxie mesprit azelf raid guide counters

Regional-exclusive Legendaries Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf are all returning to 5-Star Raids in Pokemon Go, and we’ve got the counters you need to exploit their weaknesses and catch one for yourself.

The popular Psychic-type Legendaries known as the Lake Guardians made their debut in Diamond & Pearl’s Sinnoh region, but in Niantic’s game, they’re all regional exclusives, which means you’ll only be able to encounter one of them in Raid battles based on your location.

Fortunately, all of these Gen 4 Legendaries share the same weaknesses and counters, so no matter which one appears in your region, you’ll be able to defeat it easily.

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf weaknesses in Pokemon Go

All three – Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf – are pure Psychic types, which means they’re only weak against Dark, Ghost, and Bug-type moves. While it might seem like a tight group to pick from, there are tons of strong options to build the ideal team.

We do recommend focusing on Dark-types, though, as Azelf has access to Fire Blast, which will take Bug-types down easily.

As for their strengths, these Legendaries are resistant towards Fighting and Psychic-type attacks, so avoid using those in battle wherever possible.

We’ve included a mix of MegasLegendariesShadow, and more common Pokemon in the table above, so there should be something for every trainer to use.

If you don’t have any of the creatures mentioned, go with their alternative or regular versions, or just use your best Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type attackers to target the Lake Guardians’ weaknesses. Remember that they should be properly leveled up and know the matching movesets.

How to get Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf in Pokemon Go

Like all Legendaries, Pokemon Go trainers can obtain Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf through 5-Star Raid Battles. They will have to challenge and defeat them first, to then attempt a catch using the Premier Balls given. The number of balls the player gets will be tied to their performance during the battle.

As part of the final Might and Mastery season rotations, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf will appear as 5-Star Raid bosses from May 12, 2025, until May 25, 2025, giving players plenty of time to gather their best teams and go up against them.

Additionally, they will have two Raid Hours, one on May 14 and the other on May 21.

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf in Pokemon Go

However, where the Lake Guardian trio differs from other Legendaries is that they’re region-locked. This means you’ll only be able to find them in the following locations:

  • Uxie: Asia-Pacific region
  • Mesprit: Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India
  • Azelf: Americas and Greenland

It’s worth noting that the Legendary trio also appears in the wild (depending on the player’s region), though they are considered extremely rare spawns.

When challenging these creatures, try to use Golden Razz Berries and land Excellent Curveball Throws to increase your chances of catching them.

As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP the Lake Guardians have during a Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch them after defeating them. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CPs.

Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf stats & moves

As pure Psychic-type Pokemon, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf have the following stats:

Can Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf be Shiny?

Yes, all three of the Lake Guardians – Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf – can be Shiny in Pokemon Go, as these alternative special versions were added to the game in September 2021.

Spotting Shiny Uxie, Shiny Mesprit, and Shiny Azelf will be extremely easy, as their standard gray-blue bodies change to bright yellow. Moreover, their head colors turn a couple of tones deeper, giving them a more somber look.

It’s worth noting, though, that the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon are very low, as there’s no special technique or method to secure an encounter. The only thing you can do to increase your chances is to hunt as many Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf as you can until you come across what you’re looking for.

The good news is that if you do find one while battling, all Shiny Raid Pokemon have a guaranteed catch rate, so the only challenge is completing the Raid itself.

That’s everything you need to know about Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf’s weaknesses and best counters in Pokemon Go. Don’t forget to check out the latest Pokemon Go events, including the current Community Day and Spotlight Hours.
