Pokemon fans disappointed after “awful” presentation

The Pokemon Day 2025 Presentation is in the books, but its abrupt end and lack of big announcements left fans feeling underwhelmed.

Nintendo holds a Pokemon Presentation every year, and naturally, some years are bigger than others, featuring massive announcements of new games and updates to existing ones. However, while the hype was high, many have come away from 2025’s show feeling deflated.

This is likely to how the show ended rather abruptly, and aside from the new mobile game, Pokemon Champions, and a full reveal of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there wasn’t anything big and exciting.

Many fans were at least hoping to be shouting “Anova confirmed!” following the announcement of a Pokemon Black and White remake, but no Gen 5 remakes were announced, leaving Pokemon’s 30th Anniversary plans still a mystery.

X (Twitter) users made their frustration known once the presentation ended, with one saying, “Legends Arceus wasn’t anything to write home about visually, but ZA looks so much more bland. The combat looks tedious and uninspired. No new Pokemon or megas and still have to wait until the end of 2025? No Gen 10, no classic games releasing? This was an awful #PokemonDay2025.

“That was it?”

Some asked questions like, “That was it?” Or posted memes of a sad Pikachu. Others were frustrated by the lack of news regarding a potential Pokemon Black and White remake, with Gen 5 being next in line for the treatment following the controversial Gen 4 remakes in 2021.

One player said, “My honest reaction to this year’s Pokemon Day. If people are happy with what they got today, then the hopes and standards from the Pokemon Company have fallen down to hell level. Also, no news on Black and White is pathetic.”

Of course, some fans were excited that they finally got to see some Legends Z-A gameplay and that a release window of “late 2025” was announced for the sequel to both Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon X and Y. It also promises to bring back the beloved feature of Mega Evolutions.

One fan said, “Adding more of a spin on Legends combat looks like you can act and move with your Pokemon while in battle too. It’s giving Xenoblade-based combat, I like it.”

While another said, “Okay. Pokémon Legends Z-A may just won me over now that I know Totodile is one of the starters for the game. Also, I love this new style battle system; it’s giving me some Xenoblade vibes. And of course, looking forward to meeting Zygarde once more!”

A new game called Pokemon Champions was always announced to be in development by Niantic. This will serve as a mobile version of games like Pokemon Stadium and Collisium, but one players can take with them while on the move.

It’ll also connect to Pokemon Home, meaning players will be able to transfer their existing Pokemon into its arenas. However, the Pokemon Champions reveal wasn’t enough to satisfy fans who were looking forward to an announcement of the next main-line Pokemon game or some remake news.
