Collectors are starting to fight back in the war against Pokemon card scalpers, and one viral incident shows how fans are getting even with resellers.
Pokemon card scalpers have been a plague on the community for years, but things have really gotten out of control following the release of Pokemon TCG’s 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection.
Scalpers have been spotted getting into physical fights at Costco, camping out at vending machines for restocks, and even following employees from store to store to buy up all the merch.
Amid these controversies, a new video has exploded on social media showing a man confronting a scalper in line at a vending machine, spending loads of money on cards. His shaming tactics seem to have been effective, and now others are joining in.
Pokemon card scalpers get shamed as collectors finally fight back
In a video posted to X from TikTok, a collector filmed a scalper who held up a line as he bought numerous packs and sets from a machine.
“How many is that, bro? Your card declined four f**king times?” the man filming mocked the scalper. “Look at you, bro!”
Going up to him, the person filming checked out the scalper’s cart – and it was filled with Pokemon card packs, something the man used to continue his verbal assault.
“Look at the haul!” he praised sarcastically. “Sharing is caring my guy, that’s crazy. I’m practicing my public speech, but actually, I get to film in public, too, because you’re in public! Look at this f**king clown, bro.”
Footage of the confrontation was shared by X account ‘PokeTCGiveaways,’ where it was viewed over 3M times. The account also praised the person filming. “Good to see people are speaking up!”
Users in the comments shared similar sentiments.
“Scalpers man. Scum,” one blasted.
“I would’ve laid this clown out he had my daughter waiting – we need to start smashing people on sight in today’s world – too many dirtbags and lowlifes thriving,” warned another.
“Maybe public community shaming is the only way,” someone else remarked. “If one was real petty, you could make stickers of a person and post them around the city.”
We’ll have to see if this becomes a bigger trend with scalpers being shamed on social media. Meanwhile, stores like GameStop have taken drastic action to stop scalping, such as putting an end to TCG pre-orders, much to the chagrin of fans.
